    Exterior:

The MGA is such a beautifully designed vehicle that in my opinion is on par with the big Healeys and Jaguar XK but cost way less! The exterior on this MGA is very presentable. It is beyond the standards of what would be needed for a nice driver to take to club events but in my opinion is not up to the standards of Concours. The finish is a recent repaint (I do not know what year) that is very vibrant and glossy. The finish and body work looks to have been done professionally and with care. The finish for example on the hood, tops of the fenders, etc. is ultra smooth, lacks texture, and is extremely glossy. Absent are drips, peeling, orange peel, cracking, etc. The finish on the exterior matches on all the body panels in terms of quality, tint, and glossiness, thus it looks to have been properly painted at all one time. The bright red really stands out and looks beautiful in the sun. Very little wear is evident on the paint as there must be limited miles and time on the paint. See in the photos and video the lack of chips on the front end and behind the wheels. These areas are excellent. The bodywork itself is very good with the panels being very smooth and straight, again beyond what is needed for a nice presentable driver but yet not Concours. No accidents or significant body work is evident. See in the photos and video just how nicely this MGA shines and how straight it is. It truly has attractive body and paint work.

The rest of the exterior is presentable with a few things here and there that could be done to bring it up another level. The bumpers have some aging to the chrome, some scrapes, and some dings. They are not distracting to the presentation of the car but replacing them might be the next upgrade step to the exterior. The grill is new and excellent. The emblems/badging is good. Other chrome areas (ex: windshield surround) show typical patina but are presentable. The wheels have been repainted and are excellent. The hub caps look new and are excellent. All of the lenses are very good. The windshield is very good and is absent of sandblasting or significant impacts. Some of the studs for the tonneau cover could be replaced by the dash area. I have some new ones to yet be installed that are included. The hood, trunk, and doors all open and close just fine. The trunk floor and sides is solid and does not show evidence of any repair or accidents. The engine bay also is fully solid and not showing evidence of repair or accidents.

A tonneau cover is included and in nice shape. That is what most drivers would these use these days for weather protection as these old British car tops are a pain to get up. The convertible top itself could be used if necessary. There are two quarter sized holes at the corners that should be patched. Also present is the trim panel that goes behind the seats. The side windows are also present. The clear plastic is in decent shape. The weatherstripping around them would need replacement.

The underbody on this MGA is very solid. The frame looks excellent throughout and has no evidence of repair or accident from what I can tell. The wood floors look great. Where the leaf springs mount to the body/frame is rock solid. The rest of the underbody looks in nice shape for the age and for being a functional driver.

    Interior:

There is not much to the interiors of these MGAs! The black contrasts nicely with the red exterior. The dash is in nice shape. The gauges, knob, and steering wheel are all in nice presentable condition. The carpet is in very nice condition. The seats are comfortable and in very nice condition as well. There is not much to say other than it is in nice shape.

    Mechanical:

This MGA is a great dependable driver. It starts up easily and maintains its own idle. It holds an excellent water temperature no matter the weather. The oil pressure is great. The engine goes through the RPM range as it should and feels healthy. It does not smoke, sputter, burn oil, or choke itself out. It does not consume or drip coolant. There are a few minor oil drips under the car that after months of use and sitting result in a couple golf ball sized spots. Either a valve cover breather will yet need to be added if the chrome air cleaners are left on or the stock filter housing will need to be installed, which is included with the breather hose. The exhaust sounds great! Unfortunately I did not realize my microphone was not working for the driving video but there are two clips with sound of the MGA starting and one of it idling. Notice how it starts up easily and idles well. The transmission shifts great and without issue. 1st gear does not have synchro in these cars so it should not be downshifted until at a near stop. The clutch and clutch pedal all work great. There are no odd noises from the rear end. The suspension and steering feels as it should. The brakes are good and it stops fine. Head lights, brake lights, and turn signals are working. The fuel gauge currently is not reading and I was told it was the sending unit that needed to be replaced. A new sending unit is included. The speedo, tach, and other gauges are working. The odometer shows 50,000 miles which I do not have documentation to prove but based on the condition of the underbody and other areas on this MGA I would not be surprised if that is accurate.

    Some recent work includes:

    • Fluid changes (engine, coolant, trans, brakes) and top offs

    • Dash mounts fixed

    • Battery maintenance

    • Brake caliper replaced

    • Fuel leaks remedied

    • Turn signal fixed

    Conclusion:

This MGA is lovely to look at and to drive. It is the sort of car one can take out on the back roads and cruise in, either at a relaxed or spirited pace. The exhaust offers a sporting tone that is properly British sports car sounding. This example is an excellent vehicle that can be driven and enjoyed as it is either as a beautiful driver or taken to shows.

This vehicle is located in Sussex, WI 53089. The nearest large airport is Mitchell International in Milwaukee, WI (MKE) which is about 40 minutes away. Transport is of the buyer’s expense. It has been a couple years but I have always used Auto Shipping Group in the past and they have always done good for me. If shipping is necessary I would recommend doing an enclosed transport due to the value of the MGA and lack of how weather tight it can get. Pending distance I could potentially deliver up to a certain distance and fee.
