Car description

You are bidding on a 1958 MGA 1500 Coupe, this MGA has been in dry, heated storage for the past 15 years & re-commissioned in May of this year. A two owner car from new...first ownership extending over 31 years (1990) & the second for 23 years, this owner was on the executive board of the Toronto MG Club & hence the MG received all of the TLC it needed to make it a fine example of an MGA Coupe. This car is part of my personal car collection that I started over 45 yeas ago & now given my age have decided to sell some of the cars & retain only a handful of my favorites.

This MGA started life on the 10th of July 1957, destined to a USA dealer. The exterior was finished in Glacier Blue with a Black interior. Optioned with; Disc wheels, Heater, Adjustable Steering Column & Tubeless Tires. My understanding from the second owner was that the MG was imported to Canada sometime in 1958 when the first owner purchased the car through a Canadian British car dealer located in Toronto, Canada.

The MGA is a good original car with excellent body panel fit, the engine was swapped out for an 1800cc MGB motor sometime in the late 80’s, the rest of the drive train is original to the car. The MG received its first restoration in the mid 90’s. The car was completely stripped leaving the running gear in place & the front & rear shrouds mounted to the frame. It received a bare metal re-spray in its current maroon color.

The interior was refurbished at the same time & the seats were reupholstered in black leather with red piping in May of this year. The head liner was also replaced & the door/kick panels, cock pit rails are newly covered along with a carpet replacement & all door seals & rubber trim pieces. Aluminum threshold plates, kick plates & frame covers were also installed.

The dashboard is original & all of the gauges are in working order the original radio blanking plate is still in place. The tachometer was replaced with an electronic unit from an MGB when the engine swap occurred. The engine, tachometer & theinstallationof an engine oil cooler are the only non-original components in the car. The windows crank up & down nicely however, the driver’s side window is plagued with worn teeth on the gear lever (common issue) & will only crank to a couple inches shy of the full whind up...the window can be put in the full up position by lifting it with your fingers the last couple of inches.

The MG runs & drives beautifully... is safe, reliable & can be driven anywhere with confidence. Oil pressure is between 50-60lbs hot & 25 -30 at idle. It shifts up/down smoothly through all the gears, however, first gear is noisy & I typically just briefly use it to get the car moving then shift to second gear. I purchased 2 transmissions for the car an MGA & an MGB that were removed from running MG's with no apparent problems of any kind. I just never got around to swapping transmissions. One transmission will go with the car...your choice the A or B. The 1800cc motor provides the MG with that extra power that makes it allot more comfortable to drive in today's traffic. The sport muffler gives the exhaust note a crisp raspy sound on acceleration.

The painted wire wheels are wrapped in Pirelli Centuratos & the wire wheel conversation was done in the late 90’s.

This MGA is a turn-key, first class driver quality car that requires no mechanical work, the paint is very presentable & was a high end professional paint job at the time of restoration. The trunk lid once sported a luggage rack & since that time polished chrome finishing machine screws have been installed where the feet of the luggage rack would have been. The trunk lid has some paint blemishes from age but hardly noticeable as shown in the picture portfolio, there is also a very small dent in the right rear fender above the wheel arch, see pics.

The MG has never been in an accident, the frame is solid & straight with no sign of rust through or past repairs, the battery boxes are in place & solid with only surface rust.

A new battery, generator, regulator, rear wheel cylinders & fuel pump were installed in May of this year when the MG was re-commissioned.

The ‘Heritage Certificate’ is available to verify the noted; Chassis # as shown on the original VIN Plate, also the build & dispatch dates including factory colors & trim. Original Driver’s Handbook (original to this car) goes with it.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you like, more pics are available beyond what the Ebay auction shows...they may be requested by sending me your personal email address.

All vehicle inspections are to be done prior to bidding.

My wife & I are reluctantly selling this MGA (as we did the others)...but given my age & desire to reduce my car collection & to focus on just a handful of my long term favorites it is time for it to go to a new home.

My opening auction price is less than what I have invested in this car & you would be hard pressed to find one comparable for the same price.

I have tried to take pictures of all aspects of the car including the underside however, I don’t have a hoist and took them by laying underneath. If you want specific pictures please feel free to ask. I will do my best to accommodate.

The 'Australian License plate' on the car is a novelty item only & does not go with the car...the current plates were removed for the photos.

I am willing to ship WORLDWIDE & will assist with shipping arrangements.

Note: For European Buyer’s, I can have this car shipped to any European destination for approx $1.5KUSD, this would put it at the closest port to your home destination

Given that I am located inCanada, someUSand offshore buyers maybe reluctant to bid given the border crossing and or importation paperwork required to import the vehicle to their home destination… I can assist with providing the buyer with contact information to an international transportation company (specializing in relocating vintage & classic cars worldwide) that will safely and at a reasonable cost transport the vehicle I have personally used this company several times and have been extremely pleased with the pick-up & delivery.
