Car description

This 1978 MG Midget vehicle is my father-in-laws', purchased in 2002. He hasn't been able to drive this car for the past five years due to dementia, so my son has been driving and fixing it along the way. The Texas title states 1978 however, the VIN tag from British Leyland has manufacture date of 12/77.
  • Engine was overhauled at 112,435 miles ~ 2013
  • Original, low mileage manual transmission was installed in early 2017
  • Clutch replaced and brake system gone through

Solid ride; however, wire wheels are original and should be replaced at same time as tires, as the splines are getting tired. Other than that, it is a fun car to drive especially with the wind blowing through your hair. This would make an ideal gift to that graduate who likes to tinker on cars or to DAD for father's day who has also wanted a Midget.

Electrical system is in good working order; all lights work including turn signals. The AM/FM digital radio son installed no longer works.

The convertible top is in rough shape and torn at windows; hence a new black Robbins top is included but has not been installed. Tonneau cover is in good shape. Interior was replaced at engine overhaul but shows some wear. Gearshift boot has small tear. Spare tire, tire tools and jack neatly enclosed in vinyl bag in boot. In photo, cigarette lighter was missing but has since been replaced. No rips or gashes in the dash or upholstery! The chrome luggage rack completes the iconic British sports car look!
Windscreen has no scratches or dings. All window glass in great condition as well.

Body is pretty straight. There is some minor rust where the trunk floor meets the rear fender wall. There have been some noticeable paint touch ups (teenager not quite focused enough) and just requires some polishing compound.

If you use Hagerty's condition rating system, this vehicle would be a 3.5 - somewhere between "Good" and "Fair".

Comes with Owner's Manual and shop manual.

Sold As Is. NO RESERVE. Please ask questions and will answer to best of ability!

I have way too many cars and this one needs a new home. It's a great deal for any graduate wanting a manual shift or for Dad on Father's Day.
I have a transportation jobber that can provide quotes on open or closed carrier to your destination!
