The body style and condition of this 1969 Mercury Cougar are easily its most distinct and enticing features. In 1969, the Mercury Cougar took a stylistic departure from it's Ford pony car cousin. Notice the sharp crease along the flanks that starts at the nose and tapers down each side, ending just at the leading edge of the rear wheel arches. The functional Ram-Air hood scoop sits aggressively on the hood, complimented by the horizontal grille, the Cougar Paint emblem, and signature hideaway headlamps. The tail lamps stretch along the width of the rear, and the license plate is mounted below the bumper to make room for the "Lincoln Mercury Division" Coat of arms.

The exterior of this Cougar is remarkable. The paint is nearly perfect with almost no blemishes. The horizontal grille and both bumpers are chrome and in pristine condition. The hideaway headlamp doors align nearly perfect. The style steel wheels shine bright with trim rings and are wrapped in fairly new BF Goodrich A/T Radial tires. The power convertible top is also in remarkable condition, as you will see in our photos.

Mercury pulled out all of the stops to give the Cougar XR-7 its promised European flair, particularly inside, where designers attempted to distinguish the car from its Mustang relative. This was accomplished by the woodgrain finish in the dash and steering wheel, the neatly designed leather seats, and the "Saddle" image of the Decor Interior Group. It packed all the muscle and a stitch more class than the Mustang, which made it a good mix of black tie and brawler.

The interior of this Cougar is all original and in excellent condition considering its age. As you will see in our photos, the front seats show a bit of wear and tear, but it doesn't take away from the overall condition of the interior. The dash show no cracks or damage, the door panels are nearly flawless. All of the gauges were inspected and work flawlessly. All of the electric window switches work, and those windows go up and down with ease. The electric convertible top goes up and down perfectly, and latches securely.

Test Drive...

Upon starting this Cougar XR7 428CJ, you instantly feel the power and dominance that it posesses. You are sitting behind the wheel of a 335hp American muscle car that feels as though it came off the showroom floor for the first time. The Cobra Jet engine effortlessly pulls you in to your seat as the C6 Automatic transmission shifts assertively. The exhaust bellows beneath you with an addictive sound that will have you driving with a heavier foot whenever the opportunity presents itself. The steering is tight, the power brakes effortlessly stop the car without binding or pulling to one side, and the A/C blows colder than our boss's heart. It is a true piece of professional workmanship.

Below is a photograph of the original Buyer's Guide that comes with the car upon purchase. It displays all of the options that were chosen when the car was bought new.

Here is a photograph of the CCOA Western Nationals competition that also comes with the purchase of this incredible Cougar. The CCOA Western Nationals is a scored competition in which the vehicle is scored based on originality, quality, and overall condition. This car having had an extensive restoration with no expenses spared scored a 447/500.

Here is a photograph of the Marti Report that also comes with the vehicle. You will notice that this car is only 1 of 96 ever built with this specific drivetrain and being convertible. Based on it's rarity, one could expect a consistent appreciation of value.

Lastly, here is a photograph of all of the receipts that also come with this car. They are mostly receipts of the restoration process that took place between 2000 and 2004. With a bit of persuasion and a few hours of our Content Writer's utter suffering, he neatly deciphered and organized these receipts in to a table so you don't have to.

Collector's Dream Cars Note from the Owner...

I am a “used car dealer” but before that, I’m an automobile enthusiast. I love original, rare and high quality modified vintage and modern cars. Over the past 15 years I’ve been in business, I have come to appreciate an expanding selection of high-demand, high value vehicles as well. I specialize in and I am always on the lookout for cars and trucks that were cherished by their previous owners.
I have an experienced eye for quality and I’ve discovered that my preferred buyers can instantly discern such a vehicle and I have therefore, built my business and reputation around finding these kinds of cars for this type of customer. Super low miles and/or gentle ownership are strict requirements but a car must do something for me on a personal level if there is any hope of convincing you, the buyer, that this is an above average, exceptional vehicle. If nothing about the car excites me, it probably won’t do much for you either and I would soon be out of business.

With just four employees and no sales people, I realize how unusual a “dealership” like mine may be at a first glance. It has taken great care and effort to create such an organization and often, an unusually high investment in a particular car we are about to list. To sell the best it is critical to have a trusted expert in my corner. First we do an exhaustive 130 point inspection on each and every vehicle and hope nothing escapes our methodical investigation. Experience has shown that everything I spend making a car truly “right” will come back to me not only with a higher selling price, but a happy customer that says good things about Collector's Dream Cars. Moreover, it allows us to describe the car with ease and confidence, something that simply is not possible unless we think it is true. If major issues are found or the cost of fixing the car the way it should be makes it too expensive to sell, my choice is an easy one. I simply absorb a few hundred dollars loss for my trouble and sell it at auction so you don’t get a headache over the vehicle.

After the vehicle is fully checked over and made whole at any level it needs to be, we researches its history, documents, documenting originality and authenticity. Historical significance, rarity, special features, possible modifications, and much more are used to accurately describe the vehicle with integrity and honesty. Most important for the potential buyer are the 100 to 200 high resolution pictures that I take myself. The pricey equipment I use would be right at home in the hands of the very best professional photographers and I’ve developed a logical format that walks you around the entire vehicle with close-up shots of every square inch. I provide detailed views of the interior, under the hood and then put it on a lift to show the undercarriage and confirm that the beauty of the car you are considering is not merely skin deep. Even our detailers are enthusiastic about the cars they meticulously clean. Reconditioning can sometimes take several days as we do all that we can within reason to get our vehicles in tip top condition visually and cosmetically. We do Way more than just a cheap detail. Our details are more like refurbishing to as close to new as we can possibly get our vehicles.

Usually, I’ll also include a high definition video that shows the car doing its thing. If it’s a fast car, we film it going fast. If it’s a 4x4 you’ll see it crawling up a hill. In every case you will hear things like a rumbling exhaust, working sound system and watch gauges operation as well.

No “dealer,” on-line or in the real world, takes it to this level. No other seller or organization provides you, the buyer, with so much information. I do this because it is the only way I can convince a person; often a world away, unable to touch or feel their purchase that my vehicle is for real and what I say is an honest assessment. All the above is necessary for me to stay in business while keeping integrity intact. I want every buyer to be happy and I need glowing feedback on eBay. To accomplish that I need satisfied customers that are as thrilled with their purchase as I was when I bought it.

If you have any questions at all, please call me on my cell at: 702-353-7500. If your inquiry is sincere and your offer is serious, you’ll find me the most accommodating business partner you’ve ever dealt with. If you call or e-mail asking for my reserve or “what is my bottom line” I will be looking for ways to politely end the conversation. Until you are ready to actually make an offer, I will happily quote you a liberal suggested retail price – a number we both know will not buy the car so, don’t waste your time, or mine. I am after all, a “used car dealer.”
