1980 Mercedes 450SEL

1980 Mercedes 450SEL. US car fully converted to Euro look, bumpers, headlights, license plate frames. Original 85mph speedometer converted to 160mph, mileage is original, 162000. Same owner 21 years, MB enthusiast high end restoration shop owner. Mostly original paint except where required when bumper conversion was done. Hood re-painted and grille replaced, due to small accident 16 years ago. Zero rust. Chrome in great condition. Door seals and windshield gasket replaced 20 years ago but still in perfect condition. Mechanically excellent, passes California emissions every time. Original interior in excellent condition, amazing wood never restored, dash unfortunately has a crack near the climate control sensor as most blue dashes do. Superb running condition. Suspension was totally serviced a few years ago including new springs, all bushings front and rear. Steering box replaced with original MB rebuild unit, zero play.
Seats are excellent with no tears and just a little patina on the driver's side, rear seat looks new. Original carpets with MB floor mats. Perfect trunk, complete tool kit in original MB bag. Full set of manuals and spare keys. Original silver Bundt Cake alloys with Michelin Harmony's, excellent tread but 15 years old. Climate Control in perfect working order hot and cold with original servo, and still charged with R-12, no vacuum leaks. Door locks in perfect working order, hold vacuum for weeks. Fully functional Cruise Control, amplifier replaced a few years ago. Original MB battery installed in 2019. Car has had little use for the last 10-12 years since owner lives overseas and drives it only during trips to the US. Stored in covered parking under a cover.
Known problems and defects:Fuel hoses, belts and fluids need service - unable to do last year due to not being able to travel to the US.Needs engine/transmission mountsNeeds paint detailing/correction
Original Hirschmann antenna but non functional, raising/lowering by handTires are aged but not cracked
Carpet behind driver's seat has a defect due water ingress when car was purchased back in 1999, have set of replacement rear carpets from GAHH in case new owner decides to replace it.Small engine fire 15 years ago due to fuel leak, everything that was damaged replaced, practically unnoticeable.Very hard to find a W116 in this condition that has had such good care over the years. Maintenance/repairs done at Mercedes dealer in Westlake Village and later at South Bay Autohaus, currently serviced at Pete's Autohaus in Torrance. All parts replaced are MB/OEM original including headlights, bumpers (from a 73 car re-chromed and restored), euro license plate frames from the Mercedes Classic Center, Bilstein shocks, etc... thousands spent over the years.Car located in Torrance California.
