Car description

1976 Mercedes-Benz 240 D

Here is a rare 240 D with a 4 speed manual, manual sunroof, very low mileage at 123k. This car has had thousands of dollars worth of work over the past year, though I am now forced to sell abruptly due to changing transportation needs. A few examples of what's been done:

  • New tires

  • New battery

  • New starter

  • New full exhaust system

  • New motor mounts and engine damper

  • 4 new bilstein shocks, new springs

  • New radiator, thermostat, temp sensor

  • New belts, hoses

  • Injection pump service

  • New fuel sending unit/fuel strainer/tank cleaned

  • New directional switch

  • Oil changed regularly

  • Oil bath air filter cleaned and re-oiled recently

  • New windshield and seal

  • New custom autosound retro stereo, bluetooth, CD, with twin dash speakers, two 6x9 on deck and a 10' powered sub tucked away in the cavernous trunk - sounds incredible!

This car has been round trip from Maine to Pennsylvania a few times now, with no issues at all. It is my daily driver and is currently Maine inspected! mileage will increase slightly as I'm still driving her until sale. The diesel glow plugs fire up good and she starts great especially with the idle adjustment knob option for colder mornings. It also has a block heater. The body is in very good shape with one small surface rust spot on rear quarter, some prior minor bodywork done and a slight kink in the passenger door near the rear lip, which is only noticeable if you know it's there - it didn't bother me enough to fix and I'm pretty picky :). Also, the vacuum door locks lose vacuum now after sitting for a while, though the front doors are keyed so it's not a huge hassle. The undercarriage looks great. This car has been a joy to own and drive, it's comfortable as all get out and gets looks everywhere my daughter and I go. The upholstery is in incredibly good shape though the passenger and rear seats can use some padding as 40+ years of rear ends have tired them out a bit! :) The interior panels and dash are beautiful. Clock works but doesn't keep accurate time, typical for this age of Mercedes. The map pocket is missing on drivers side door (my assumption is it would hit one's leg anyway!). I've tried to be as honest and up-front as I'd want someone to be to me when buying/selling a car. Any questions, just ask! Most parts came from Mercedessource or other specialty stores. Though you should not expect a new car, this car is a real time capsule and those who know these W115 Mercedes know how much one that has been taken care of is worth! Owners manual, original German delivery slip and badging (Leipzig) and many more manuals are included,

This an incredibly reliable car, in excellent shape for a good price. Reserve reflects the value of the car and some of the work that has been done. Not looking to get rich, just hoping it goes to a good home and to recoup some of what I put in. As anyone who knows these cars knows, they can go for hundreds of thousands of miles with the right care. This one's still a baby! Sold as is with no warranty, written or implied. All sales are final. Good luck!
