Car description

FIRST: I bought this very beautiful 280S on eBay last year In July from a private seller in Florida. All the photos you see here are the ones he had taken and posted on Ebay which I just copied, except the last ones. Ever since it had been delivered to my home in Los Angeles, I only test drove once and then parked it in the storage along with many other classics and covered! Why? I live out of the country and once a year visit the U.S., but love of cars and specifically Mercedes, made me buy and store them for my periodic drives! I left the states shortly after I bought it . I attend here a few days ago to and will leave in a few weeks. This absolutely beautiful original Benz could be inspected at its present location in Costa Mesa wstorage facility, unless you are like me and use your own experience and guts to trust the photos and my words and buy without inspection, just as I did, with no hesitation and no regrets!
I want to sell my 280S simply because I do not possess enough energy and enthusiasm to keep up with my toys ( I am 69 years young!)! I do have 2 other Benz that I would be listing later. I am a collector, not a dealer, and I pay sales tax and registration, like everyone else.
The pictures do the justice and show the car exactly as it is when you look at it. No negative surprises, no mistypes, no bad news, as far as I know and I can tell. Remember how much I drove this car, maybe 10 miles, to take it to the storage facility. The dealer took care of DMV and registration for me, a very honest and honorable young man, whom I never got to meet! All the pictures show the car exactly as you will be looking at it while taking these photos, BUT, getting much closer, you will be able to see lots of tiny cracks on the paint, having been parked under a carport by the Florida owner. These cracks are mainly on the rear of the car and not found in front. I talked to a car painter who said most if not all of those cracks can be buffed out, but I would leave it up to the new owner and without any guarantees about this point. .... However, the paint is original, never been repainted, as far as I can tell and by the previous owner words, the car is really eye catching, just as you can judge from the pictures. If I kept it, I would definitely get the paint taken care of so I could show it off! I also found a very small rust spot under the right rear wheel well, not visible looking at the car standing next to it.
I would consider the paint very brilliant and glossy, except the little cracks, but I feel good that it's the original.. The chrome, all of it, all the way around are in great condition and straight, the glass all the way around, original alloy wheels and also tires are all great!.. inside, the leatherette is in really good condition, just like new. I did not notice any tear, you would not need to repair or dye it. Door panels, dash, center console all are great, no cracks! The wood, just as the photos show shiny and great. The headliner like new and so is the carpet!
Mechanically, my Benz drove very well and smooth, no negatives, transmission shifts smoothly, power was acceptable and high enough, breaks and suspension and steering all were fine, just as the seller had described it! ... in fact, I am just copying his exact words on the posting, saves me some time, these are the words of the gentleman from whom I bought my car and contains very valuable information: "...... This 1979 Mercedes-Benz is in excellent running and driving condition. ...... " 1 previous owner, I am the second one. Never in any type of accidents, clean Carfax. Original factory DATA-card, members matching car. DB 423 datkmtobaco brown exterior ( first and original factory paint. Power windows work the way they should. Ain't conditioner converted R 134 A works well and blows cold. AM/FM Becker Europa radio (booklets included) and power antenawork properly. Excellent running and driving car, well maintained, true 69K mile car. Strong and powerful engine. No unusual noises of any kind. Original carpet in great condition. All the glass is original and in excellent condition. All the chrome is excellent, good brakes. Headliner is great, tires are new and exhaust is good. Original jack and original spare tire. Also there are stamped owners book and manuals, two keys, original rubber mats, tools in porch includ3d. ... recent improvements performed on this Benz are: ( over $5,000) brand new tires, new Weber carburetor, new gas tank float, recent tune up ( oil, fluids, filters, spark plugs, and wires, gas filter, some vacuum hoses, new shifter bushings, new battery, new calipers, rotors and brake lines have been installed 3 years ago, at 64000 miles. This is a great opportunity to pick up and own a "practical classic" that can be driven regularly and maintained in a budget. These cars are appreciating, and specifically this 280 in this excellent condition and original in every way is very hard to find. Once you see one, if you are an enthusiast, do not pass up the opportunity. ....”
Please remember, NO second hand vehicle is new, so any time you buy any used car, expect issues, regardless of the age ! That is what I told my sons and everybody else, including myself. But use your experience in cars, your judgment by looking at the photos carefully and reading all my information carefully, BEFORE BIDDING! .... I just sold my other classic Benz on Ebay, am listing this one, and tomorrow I will list my last one, another classic, all of which I really loved and adored, as a car enthusiast and Mercedes-Bens lover, but must depart fromPlease remember my "young" age and my limited time staying in our beautiful country, so PLEASE do NOT PLAY Atari with these "toys for big boys”, respect the seller, Ebay, and yourself! Bidding on Ebay cars is just like signing and committing yourself in contract! Have more questions, please ask. Need to inspect, contact me and I will gladly make myself available for your inspection, The car is sold, obviously AS IS, and I have described it to the VERY BEST of my ability and observation. You will NOT be disappointed, and my advice to you if you ended up owning it, DO NOT SELL IT! It is beautiful, eye catching, prestigious, and with an upward value, basically an enjoyable investment, which unfortunately I could not enjoy! But have no regrets, I am happy for the new owner!

On Jul-22-18 at 18:27:07 PDT, seller added the following information:

1. The wheels are NOT alloys! I tried to copy the information from my other Benz I sold yesterday (being lazy to rewrite most of them! Sorry!) The wheels are factory with original Mercedes Benz factory hub caps in like new condition, all four!
2. As the pictures indicate clearly, the material of the seats, the leatherette, are all original and in great condition, BUT, as you can tell, they all need to be filled in at an upholstery shop (i was quoted $300 for the front and back seats), putting them in total original shape! By doing that, the interior would be nothing less than perfect and original, seats, dash, door panels, carpet, the wood, headliner, glass, etc.
3. There is a tiny ding on the front bumper right in the middle that the photo shows too, but in case you did not notice it!
4. I just finished listing my last Benz. The lucky buyers would be buying the cars it took me years to find and all in pristine condition, except the paint on this 280S, but original paint and body, and a very lovely color combination (tobacco metallic brown with palomino interior), which is the only reason i decided to buy it, although color is strictly a matter of a personal preference!
5. The second line of the third paragraph, again, a copy of my other Benz (sorry!), "The dealer took care......... whom i never met!..." Please disregard!! The seller of this one was a private seller, as I had indicated in the beginning! I have NOT registered this car, since I left the country as soon I took delivery from Florida. But, like others it is stored and covered at a storage full of high dollar classics and antiques, and I have the clear title in my hand!
I hope the above information helped you!
