Car description

1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC
Background:
This SEC was purchased new 1989 by a Doctor friend of the family, who traded into my folks (they owned the Mercedes Dealership and sold the car new) around 2000-2001. At that time I think the car has 28-29k miles on it if memory serves me correctly. I inherited the car from their Estate in 2012. I kept the car stored in a heated warehouse up there for years, I recently sold the property and brought it home to Illinois. I think I put maybe 1000 miles on it in that time period.
I now collect vintage Mercedes and parts, and know enough about these W126 cars as pretty much anyone on the planet. My reason for selling this piece of art is that I got into a new business venture and could use the capital to invest in other endeavors.
About the car:
All original paint and interior, the paint mils out in the high 4s as far as thickness goes, which indicates all original paint that hasn't been cut and buffed. The paint is excellent, no sun fading, clear coat issues, ect. No door dings or any other issues of that nature with the paint, you might find a light scratch or two, but then again, I never cut nor buffed this car, with some clean up, this paint would be flawless, and I mean that with all honesty.
The interior on the car is well, flawless. Typically, on these cars you see issues with the veneers, cloudy or cracking veneers, this are mirror clear with zero cracks. The carpets being light colored are usually always stained, not this car...carpets are flawless, and I've never done so much as vacuum them. All interior lights, signals, bulbs, ect. work. The Becker Grand Prix I had sent out and rebuilt at some point, don't ask me when. It works just great, well...as good as any Becker Grand Prix can. Headliner, ect. is all mint. Car has never been smoked in or driven by any type of youth, nor driven in the rain or snow, if it could ever be avoided.
The car has never had a panel painted and has ZERO rust and corrosion. Cosmoline (factory protectant) is still on the undercarriage and under the hood. The engine has never been power washed.
I went ahead and did some serious age related maintenance on this car in recent years, including motor mounts, A/C retrofit, trans seals, timing chain rails, ect. Nothing was wrong with the car, these are plastic parts that just downright get old and brittle, and anybody that runs original rails on one of these cars has scrambled eggs for brains, I don't care how many miles are on it.
The car would be a great piece for any collector looking to add a "real" low mileage SEC to their collection. The car has almost all factory labels on all the parts, including the exhaust, which is still factory grey and hasn't rusted due to age or moisture.
I'm not going to go back and forth with picture collectors on this car, it is what it is, and it sells itself.
I don't sell junk and have a impeccable reputation for selling cars that are described 100% accurate. The car is available for inspection at my home BEFORE the auction ends. I recently had the car in for a full service including all fluid being exchanged, ect. I have the original tires for the car, but I put new Michelins I believe on the car because driving on 30 year old tires is never a good idea. I have the stamped maintenance log as well as service records, and I "think" I have the window sticker. I gotta look for it.
Exterior: Original Anthracite Grey, 100% original paint being a 9.9 out of 10. Few unphotographable scratches. Paint almost 5 mils thick (original uncut paint). No hazing or peeling, clear coat issues, ect.
Interior: 100% Original Dove Grey Interior, ZERO bolster wear, never messed with, looks like it was never sat in. Original mats are included but not pictured. 1989 was the first year for the passenger air bag, nice safety feature!
Engine: Original 5.5 liter V8, fresh chains and rails, zero leaks, Bosch Fuel Injection. No issues, no smoke, virtually zero oil usage. Cosmoline present on engine (factory corrosion preventative) all Cadium plating is excellent.
Transmission: OEM 722.350 4 Speed Automatic with overdrive. Original, new front/rear seals, fluid and filter are fresh.
Differential: Factory 2.65 ratio Limited Slip, fresh fluid and seals.
HVAC: All works properly, all fan speeds, vent settings, A/C is leak free and ice cold. Correctly converted to R134A, heat is very hot.
Brakes/Wheels/Tires:Pads are new Bosch, calipers resealed, rotors scuffed, wheels are OEM Alloy, no curb rash or peeling. Tires are newer Michelins +/- 1000 miles.
Suspension: All OEM and tight as can be. Drives perfectly straight, excellent feedback.
Room for Improvement: Not much, this car looks like a 5,000 mile car. If I told you it had 5,000 miles on it, you'd believe me.
You can call me at 630 425 8567 at any reasonable time. I intend to put the car in Hemmings and on the Mercedes forums as well, with a $25,500 asking price. I can and will END the auction in the event the car sells outside of eBay.
Carfax and Autocheck are perfect, of course. Jack and tools still in factory plastic bag, never used.
