Car description

BESTILL MY HEART! I am letting go of my best-yet ragtop, this reliable and solid 1978 450SL. I have owned the car for 7 years, bought it from a couple getting divorced who couldn’t decide who should get it, so they sold it to lucky me.

This car is powerful, loves to be driven, and is solid as a tank. No problems opening it up on the interstate, and she starts up EVERY time. The body is straight, but the paint has some nicks, bumps, and clear coat fading – to be expected for a car her age. Yet she continues to draw the attention that such a beautiful classic deserves when cruising around town. The soft top has normal wear and tear with some fraying and one small tear on the driver’s side near the back. The hard top is in good condition – it has been stored with cover since I owned the car, and comes with its own rack and custom cover (see pic). I mean, this is a convertible people, why install the hard top when you can enjoy the fresh air and sun in your face?

I have replaced/repaired the following:

  • rear brakes
  • battery
  • water pump
  • radiator hoses
  • rear shocks
  • driver's side window regulator
  • some of exhaust system

The blower motor recently stopped working. The AC worked when I first got the car after it had recently been charged, but it has not functioned since. Other than that, everything else mechanical works. Keep in mind, this car is almost 40 years old, so it will require maintenance and attention now and again. But she has never stranded me and has been a great, fun ride!

All the ORIGINAL manuals and data card come with the vehicle. Plus three keys. See the pic!

The seats are in very good condition, but I am including the genuine sheepskin covers as they are super soft and just go so great with the interior. These were especially appreciated on cold winter days and super hot summer days.

As you can see, the stereo is not original, and there are speakers on the back bench. I bought the car with these already installed, but I have to say, it’s been a nice addition. You can pop in a CD and jam out to your tunes, and actually be able to hear them when you’re cruising on the highway with the top down. You would not have been able to hear it with the original system.

I hate to see her go, but life events force me to part with my love. I hope you enjoy her as much as I have.
