Car description

Attention Indiana automobile collectors!

For sale isone 1969Mercedes Benz 300 SEL 6.3 VIN 109.018-12-002464 deliveredby MB Germany new toWorld Wide Motors of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA as built for Mr. Thomas Lake, a noted Indianapolis philanthropist and once president // board of directors member of Eli Lilly. The extra wear on the right rear black leather bench seat along with the solitary extra black floor mat occupying the right rear floor also with the pen holder attached to the turn signal stick would indicate “chauffer driven” to this grandson of a Mercedes chauffer. Interesting to note that a simple Google search shows Mr. Lake was a 1988-1989 contributor to USA’s Vice President elect Michael Pence’s early congressional campaigns which shows a certain “visionary” touch.

The second owner is listed in the MB maintenance book as another Indianapolis notable as Mr Thomas J Hibbeln.

Whether Mr. Lake and Mr. Hibbeln did the sale or trade of the automobile as friends or colleagues needs to be researched through the respective families.

The as built option code tag present in the engine compartment shows the following:

306 - Air conditioner - present

491 - US version – MB factory installed Kangol safety belts all present and functioning front and rear.

503 - Outside rear view mirror, left - present

519 - Becker radio Grand Prix LM/MW/SW/USW – USA (removed by previous owner(s))531 - Hirschmann automatic antenna - present

811 - Loudspeaker sound package in the rear. (removed by previous owner(s))

180G silver paint with black leather interior

Optional limited slip differential

The automobile is in need of a full restoration – is solid throughout with the exception of the trunk lid and left rear spare tire well reinforcement (pictured) The engine ran when parked 5 years ago – but according to the previous owner the engine requires the right side head replaced as it is cracked.

We offer discounts to M100 club members on the purchase of our M100 powered autos.

Reserve price is low – with the understanding there is substantial mechanical work to be performed along with some cosmetics.

As with our otherW109 antique Mercedes we sell this vehicle is solid original floor and frame otherwise the auto would be dismantled and sent to the crusher.

My understanding is(having never even put a battery in the car.) from the previous owner that the engine ran whenparked 5 years ago,but had issues on the left head ....crackedwas the word used, we have not removed the valve covers and even had a peek at the cams and rockersthere so....we have several M100 completecrate engines here if you require parts after sale to you. We speak fluent M100.Obviously after being parked insidefor so long the fuel tank, fuel lines, both fuelfilters, fuel tank filter, both the MFI injection pump pressure and case sides will need to bedrained, cleaned, flushed, and filter changed.
Cosmetics: there is rust through on the trunk lid underneath the 300SEL badge - I have aUSED clean trunk lid which will be included in the shipment of the auto to its new owner.. It appears as though the auto was Ziebarted sometime early in its life (hence those plastic plugs you see sometimes on the doors and interior trunk). The Zeibartingsaved the entire auto in its early years in the Indiana // Illinoisrust beltfor the future and you instead of being stripped and taken down to the crusher near our shop....It also appear as though new correct outside rockers were installed professionally sometime as well. There are no areas of rust through on the interiorfloors, trunk flooror the frame nor the rightsparewheel well. There are issues with the left spare wheel well.It appears as though the right rear quarter panel was replaced professionally sometime in the cars life.
The photos of the engine compartment are not the best - there is some kind of preservative coating (cosmoline??) that has turned brown with age.
The car has been jacked up and down several timesusing all four of the MercedesBenzprovided jacking holes using each individuallyas principal load bearing point- using the original jack withNO push through, nor sagging // bending issues.
The air bags are all in good shape with no cracking and look as though they have been replaced as some point.
The Lammerz steel disc wheels carry dates from 1970 so these cannot be the original wheels - there are four steeldisc wheels that camealong in the trunk upon delivery to our shopthat have dates from 6/69. Dateswhich are more inline from the build and delivery dates on hand.
Vehicle comes with the original issue emergency blocks in the case of catastrophic air suspension failurewhich are installed both front and rear at present - the auto comes with original tool kit, wheel chock, and locating pin to keep the wheel lug holes aligned during tire change.
The previous owner discovered the car in an exotic car dealer in Iowa with the explanation from the dealer the car had been owned by a rich florist? As you are no longer allowed links within your ebay ad, please do Google the first two owners as marked in the original owners book provided a Mr. Thomas H Lake of Indianapolis and a Mr.Thomas JHibbeln also of Indianapolis. You will see yourself the car has history. The car comes with a clear correctly VINnumberedsigned Colorado title signed over by the previous owner.
Our phone is 484 944 4682 - our shop is in the hinterlands of north central Pa. state - there is NO reliablecell phone coverage there. We come down the mountain at least once a day to check our mail and calls. Contact us through ebay for more info or specific photos.
