Car description

RARE 1991 MERCEDES BENZ 350SD DIESEL

Yes, his is a 350SD (not a 350SDL. Short body w126 model. Very rare)

Drive for $$$Free$$$ on waste veggie oil!

Note: Selling for my neighbor, s he had moved away and this has been in garage storage for the last few years (started and driven around the block every few weeks while in storage)

Up for auction is a nice 1991 Mercedes Benz 350SD VIN WDBCB34E9MA582662 with an odometer reading of approximately 183,XXX miles, lack exterior, nd tan MB-tex interior.

The w126 350SD was a flagship model of Mercedes, ith only a little more than 2000 of these models built worldwide. Since this is now a 24 year old vehicle, his is a rare chance to own one in above average and maintained condition.

This vehicle, urrently will run on standard diesel, io-diesel and can be run on waste veggie-oil (WVO), hich can save hundreds to thousands of dollars in fuel costs over the course of a year! If you are environmentally conscious, his is the vehicle for you. This car has a neutral carbon footprint. If you are trying to save money on fuel, his is the vehicle for you. This vehicle will pay for itself in a couple of years in fuel savings alone if you use WVO. If you are tired of our dependence on foreign oil imports, his vehicle is for you. With a veggie-oil conversion kit, his car can be run on pure vegetable oil that is domestically grown and produced. Most people believe that a conversion kit is required to allow the vehicle to run on WVO; While this is one option to fuel the vehicle, VO can be easily mixed in a proper ratio outside the vehicle and pumped directly into the tank.

This vehicle is in good cosmetic and mechanical condition, as minimal rust for a vehicle of this vintage, nd runs as well as any w126 diesel I've seen. The mileage can be considered very low for one of these sedans, nd while not a "show car," this is a quality example of a true 126 chassis Mercedes Benz. This vehicles' exterior is in good shape, ut has several mild imperfections such as dings, hips, nd scuffs on the exterior. All exterior lenses, rim, mblems, nd rubber moldings are present and in good condition. The front headlamp lenses that are commonly in poor shape have been replaced on this Mercedes. The glass is clean, lear and original, ut the windshield has several pit in it. All interior trim and accessories are present and accounted for. There are a few very minor surface rust spots (Passenger side fender and interior of passenger side rear door at the seam, nd trunk). The bumpers are chipped and scratched as well. The under carriage is in very good shape. With some minor body work and a solid repaint, his would be upgraded to an excellent vehicle.

The interior is very sharp and clean. The seats are in good shape (Note: seat springs are in good condition!), ith one hole in the drivers side seat back and bottom(extremely common with Mercedes), an MB tex. The dash and wood are in excellent shape and the carpet looks nice all around. A full-sized spare tire along with a vehicle jack and iron are located in the trunk.

This vehicle is equipped with the following:

· basically every option except headed seats and a rear power seat is in this Mercedes.

· Dual Air bags (only year in the w126 to have this feature.)

· ABS Brakes

· Power windows

· Power front seats with two person memory. and power headrests

· Power central locking

· Updated CD AM/FM Player with USB and 3.5m inputs for Ipod, tc.

· Power steering and brakes

· Automatic Transmission

· Air conditioning

· Auto climate control

· Intermittent wipers

· Integrated fog lights

· Four-wheel disc brakes

· Cruise Control

Further, s stated before, his vehicle has been minimally driven for the last few years and has been garage stored. My Neighbor has had the following work done over the years

1 Engine was replaced a few years ago, ue to the common issues associated with all 1990/91 350SD motors.

2 All fluids and filters changed: Oil/filter, ransmission fluid, ain fuel filter and canister filter, ear diff oil, oolant, rake fluid.

3 Belt and tensioner

4 Glow plugs

5 Battery

6 Front and rear brake pads

7 New tie rods (both sides) and alignment

8 AC: R134 AC conversion was performed.

9 4 Bilstein shocks

10 New breather Bypass

11 Replaced oil cooler (note that engine is oily due to the previously faulty oil cooler.)

12 Updated all fuses to copper (aluminum fuses cause mysterious issues due to corrosion.)

Mechanically, his car runs good, ut should be driven, s its seems a little underpowered. The glow plugs heat right up, nd the diesel engine fires to life with a smooth and friendly clatter. The engine accessories turn quietly and work well (Note: The air conditioning system has been retrofitted to 134A). The steering is smooth and easy, nd the suspension feels to be in great shape, ut has a few "squeaks". The brakes stop the car confidently. The transmission does not slip, ut seems to upshift early through the gears (perhaps an adjustment)

What issues does this 350SD have?

  • Power antenna does not fully retract (very common issue with older Mercedes.)
  • Sunroof has a crimp in the seal (very common issue with older Mercedes.)
  • AC not operating. While it does hold a charge, he compressor does not engage. (NOTE: For advanced Mercedes owners, he OVP, LIMA relay were replaced.)
  • Tach is not operating
  • Motor sounds more "clattery" than most diesels. I do not believe that it's a mechanical knock, ut seem more like a noisy combustion from the front cylinder.
  • Gas pedal is missing (very common issue with w126 Mercedes.)
  • There is several leaks (oil, ransmission)
  • A crack in the oil pan was fixed a number of years ago with JB Weld. No issues with leaks from there
  • Front center vents do not operate. This is likely due to a bad vacuum element
  • Rims are chipping from previous repaints
  • Wood around the gearshift is peeling
  • For the best indication of this car's condition, lease study the many available photos and videos. I strive to be as honest and upfront as possible in my description in order to make life easier for both the buyer and myself - nobody wins when a car is misrepresented.
