Car description

1979 LOTUS ESPRIT. SERIES 2. ORIGINAL CANARY YELLOW WITH BLACK TRIM. 5-SPEED. STANDARD ALLOYS. A BELIEVED 48K MILE, HIGHLY ORIGINAL SURVIVOR CAR STILL WEARING IT'S ORIGINAL PAINT AND INTERIOR. ENGINE RUNS WELL, JUST OUT OF LONG TERM STORAGE. NEEDS GENERAL RECOMMISSIONING.Offered for sale, from KURT TANNER MOTORCARS, is this very original and largely untouched Lotus Esprit Coupe. This car was recently purchased out of a long term family ownership on the East Coast from as early as 1986. In 1993, the grandfather gave the Lotus to his son, who then recently gave it again to his son. This car is hugely original in just about all respects. The car still retains it's factory yellow paintwork with no overspray or tape lines. We believe the black pinstriping is factory applied, as well as the Lotus decals. The paintwork is showing some age in the form of chips and scratches, and also some typical stress cracks from the fiberglass bodywork. But overall it is completely original and honestly attractive. Interior trim is believed to be all original and would be saveable and very usable, with some small repairs mainly to the headliner/carpets.The car's engine runs well and sounds very healthy and strong. We recently purchased and installed a new high torque starter (saved the original one, too) and with fresh fuel gravity fed into the twin carbs, it started right up. Initially there was some white smoke on revving it, but that has disappeared to almost nothingwithin 30 minutesof running the engine, when fully warmed up. Oil pressure is a healthy 50 psi cold at idle, and drops down to 25psi hot. There is almost no blow-by through the crankcase breather hose. The car's engine hasn't ran for at least 30 years before this. If the exhaust pipe doesn't clean up completely, then I would think it's just a matter of a valve seal stem set. The engine doesn't leak much. Nothing was noticed. The car starts easily on the key and the carburetors showed no signs of a leak. The car will require a brake and fuel system service to make it roadworthy. The engine compartment looks pretty original. The car includes the pictured spare parts, along with a jack and handle, partial tool kit, workshop manual, and even the original owner's handbook with documented service work to 25,000 miles.Overall, this original Lotus is a rare and interesting find. With some recommissioning and detailing, it would make a fantastic, well-preserved Survivor car at the next car show.Video link of the engine running is listed below:https://youtu.be/X4ZgxTx6OsgPlease look at all pictures and call or email with any questions. The description above is general in nature and not to be solely relied upon by buyer.
