Car description

Located and stored covered for a number of years in a gentleman's garage. I happened upon this iconic and lovely Lincoln as a result of an associate. elated to the family. which had listed it for sale for them. The retired gentleman had ceased driving it many years prior. and having coveted it. carefully put it under a soft cloth cover. after having prepped it for storage at his local garage. and there it remained for many years prior to my acquiring it. the result of the family finally agreeing to part with it. Representing the first generation of these cars. the post war Lincoln's became more refined and reliable. with a commensurate increase in displacement. horsepower and better use of materials in their construction. This is a very original. uncorrupted car in many respects. maintaining many of its original components. and not restored. A fair amount of attention was paid to resurrecting it. involving extensive cleaning and polishing. replacing all the fluids. oil and filter. 5/40 Pennzoil w/ZDDP. transmission and differential oils. wheel bearing repacking. hassis/suspension lubrication. new fuel. brake fluid flush with wheel cylinder rebuilds. coolant flush and replacement (correct green) 12 spark plugs replaced. points and condenser. replacement of power window hydraulic fluid (brake fluid). 6 volt battery replacement. light bulb replacements. oil filter bath cleaned and refreshed. replacement of front and rear carpets. which were literally flaking away. and resuscitating (cleaning and checking) the electrical system. I'm sure I missed something here. The Lincoln paint is lacquer. with clear evidence of some areas having been refinished. inclusive of the left rear quarter panel and fender. right rear quarter panel. valance directly below the grill and headlamps. and right front fender. The lacquer reapplication of these finished areas is showing its age. as lacquer invariably does over time. revealing cracking and some peeling as is noted in the picture illustrating the left quarter panel of the car. On the other hand. the paint. when glazed and machine polished came up with a rich and intense luster. loss. and finish. typical of lacquer. although still showing its age. Quite frankly. the existing finish is a historical "time stamp" which tells its story over the 68 years since the Lincoln's build. and is still quite interesting and appealing to look at in this context. Sheet metal. doors. inner fender skirts. rocker and quarter panels. fenders. floors. ood. trunk. body mounts. suspension. all appear to be very solid and in good condition. The now wider stance chrome grill. and bumpers (and there's a lot of chrome) shows some pitting but has polished up nicely. Stainless body trim throughout the Coupe is in excellent condition and the windows and glass all seal nicely. Door. ody. and windshield glass are in excellent shape with only some minor bubbling to the left rear quarter glass edges only. There are no chips or cracks. At some point in the Lincoln's life. nbsp;the wheels were upgraded to wire wheels. with larger 3 inch whitewall tires. The wire rims. again show evidence of some rust. but have cleaned up fairly nicely. The tires. although old. have plenty of tread remaining. and do not appear to be cracking. However. if the car is to be driven any distances. I would suggest tire replacement four with whitewall radials. Presently. they track nicely when driving with no unusual noises. Power is provided by a 12 Cylinder L-Head flathead engine. encompassing the now upgraded 305 cubic inches (4. 8L for the Europeans) and factory rated at 130 h/p. The 12 cylinder engine is coupled to a three speed manual transmission with Overdrive. and terminates with a 4. 22 gear ratio differential. The engine starts immediately at the push of a button (after some peculiar factory designed gymnastics with the ignition key) and runs fairly well with some evidence of smoking under harder acceleration. not to be unexpected given the original mileage. There appears to be no leaks of oil or antifreeze. Shifting is smooth and quiet. and the clutch engages higher on the release. but does not slip. The Lincoln's interior is absolutely original. (with the exception of the carpet). Headliner and dash are very nice. The door arm rests. as illustrated can be repaired if you so wish. All the gauges work as designed with the exception of the clock and fuel gauge. The seats given their originality. are still firm and supportive with no sag or sink. The hydraulic power windows function well. Additionally. the original rubber floor mats (as shown) were saved. and are certainly rare and in nice condition. In conclusion. the charm of this Lincoln Custom Club Coupe lies in its very much original condition. It should be left as it is and not restored. but kept mechanically fresh as it presently is. driven. shared and viewed with others. and enjoyed. Its appearance tells a story over the decades. not to be muted and silenced by a restoration or modification. Bear in mind. it was built and marketed to a generation who just returned from a World War. 68 years ago. older than many of us now reading this. In its day. it was expensive. and was a luxury of often unimagineable financial comprehension to many. although many purchased it. The Lincoln will be sold as is. where is. with no warranty expressed or implied. I encourage personal inspection by the buyer and or his or her appraisers prior to sale. The text and pictures herein cannot fully illustrate all the details and nuances of this vehicle. however I have done my best to describe it.
