Car description

After successfully selling 3 of my classic cars on eBay (with 3 happy buyers), I am going to offer my recently acquired 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Car 4-door, all original, with the 400 ci engine. This is the last year of these BIG, regal Continental Town Cars… and with the re-introduction this year of the new Lincoln Continental, many feel these classic versions are set to rise in value. I will be only running this auction once - if the car does not sell, I will store it until Spring and relist it then at higher buy-it-now and reserve prices.
This car is a gorgeous light-yellow cream color, with a light tan ½ vinyl roof and a gold leather interior.
I pride myself on being 100% transparent on all items I sell, so below is an honest description of ALL issues I know about this car. Other sellers may choose to not disclose everything, or try to hide something by doing a temporary fix, but that’s not how I sell. I want the buyer to have no surprises. Most of the items detailed below are very minor fixes or are aesthetic in nature. This car can confidently be (and has been) driven as-is.
Please understand that I’m not a mechanic, nor a body/detail guy, so you’re getting a description from a layman in layman terms, but I’ll be as accurate as possible. As I mention below, I encourage you to have a mechanic check the car out before making a bid/offer in case there is an issue that is not evident to me. Also, I’m not a professional photographer (I took all photos with my iPhone) but let me know if you need to see something better or something else not shown and I’ll try to get a clean shot of it.
This car has just turned 69,500 miles on my most recent drive. This is original mileage, documented on its current antique Pennsylvania title. It runs and drives great: starts right up, drives and shifts smooth. It’s a joy to drive and is very comfortable.
Other than the few faults described below, the car is in amazing condition. I bought it at an estate sale, and only added a new battery, a full tank of ethanol-free gas, checked/topped all fluid levels, and cleaned it up with a waterless hand wash. I have put a couple hundred miles on it without a single issue. It drives like a dream on the highway and on backroads. Someone from the estate at which I bought it said the family owned it for about 3 years and drove it on average once a month. They also said the person they bought it from owned it for many many years.
It is not quite a show car, but it’s close! Overall it’s in great shape. It is currently titled as an antique vehicle in Pennsylvania (you can see the plate in photo) and if you reside in PA and buy the car, I’d be happy to transfer the plate with the car.
The car is an absolute joy to drive – quiet, smooth, and like many who know these cars say, rides like a sofa on wheels. The car is BIG, about 19.5 feet long. Please do your research if you’ve never driven this type of car – it’s not a race car that will shoot you from a red light and corner like it’s on rails – it is a slower, very comfortable highway cruiser with lots of lean/roll (and squealing tires) if you take a curve too fast.
I describe all faults below. I have provided photos of as much as I could, including faults. Please ask any questions, as I want to be as transparent as possible.
Please note that I did not professionally detail the car; and I did not steam clean the engine. So you’re seeing the car in “every day” shape. I only used a “waterless” wash spray to wipe it down.
Here are the only faults I can find on the car (I tried to document these in photos if possible):
EXTERIOR:
A few small nicks, dings and chips that should be expected with a car this age. I am not a body guy so I can’t say for sure if this car’s paint is original, but I cannot find any clear signs of a re-paint. The paint looks great (still shines). If there was a re-paint somewhere on the car, they did a great job. There are only a few spots of VERY MINOR surface rust – no rot or holes. The ½ vinyl top is also in great shape –no rips or tears. That top is probably original. It could just use a more thorough cleaning than I gave it. The corners of the rear chrome bumpers do have some cracks and some rust around them – this can be seen a bit in the rear view photo.
INTERIOR:
Some wear on steering wheel center bar near the cruise control buttons – see photo. Passenger button for ashtray on door is missing (see photo). As far as I can tell, everything else works EXCEPT the clock! A few very minor nicks in the leather seats – overall they are in great shape. See the photos. Headliner is perfect – see photo.
MECHANICAL:
Brakes are a little grabby when the car is cold – they might need adjusting or replacement. Antifreeze is due for a drain, flush and refill – it’s a getting a bit of a muddy green color. There must be a slow vacuum leak somewhere for the hidden headlights, because if the car sits overnight, the headlight doors open up. Once the car starts up, they close and stay closed (unless of course you turn on the headlights). All headlight bulbs are working except one, which you would need to replace.
Those are all the faults I could find!
If you are local (I’m located about 40 minutes south of Lancaster, PA), you are more than welcome to come see the car in person (BEFORE you offer/bid, please). If you drive it, I’m sure you’ll make an offer or bid on it! Alternatively, I’d be happy to drive the car to a local-to-me mechanic of your choice to have them check it out (BEFORE you offer/bid, please). I do reserve the right to end the auction early if I sell the car locally.
As confident as I am in this car, the logistics and cost of shipping/return prevent any type of refund, so the car is sold as-is with no warranty or guarantee or return.
I would be happy to help ship this car anywhere in the world (I sold my last classic car here on eBay to a nice gentleman in Austria!) at the buyer’s expense. I know how much these cars are loved outside the U.S… But in all cases funds must clear my bank before I will let the car leave my possession.
Please don’t bid unless you intend to complete the purchase. $500 Paypal deposit due upon winning bid, balance due (cash, wire, or certified funds) within 7 days before car ships/leaves. I will only accept bids from eBayers with a good history. Thanks for looking and good luck. The winner of this auction will have a great example of these 70’s land yachts!
THE VEHICLE IS SOLD AS- IS WHERE-IS AND WITH ALL FAULTS.I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION AT ANY TIME.
If you plan to bid on the above vehicle, then please have your money in order before bidding. Please don’t buy this car and then try to obtain financing afterwards, or offer a trade. Any inspections must be done before sale, not afterwards. The seller reserves the right to end this auction or cancel any bid, at any time, or for any reason.
ALL shipping costs and arrangements are the sole responsibility of the buyer. I will do my best to assist you with transport.
