Straight and Dry Example

The fourth generation of the Lincoln Continental is by far the most popular and recognized model. In particular, hese “suicide door” convertibles have become iconic in the film industry and political arenas. 1967 was the final production year for these 4-door open land yachts and fewer than 2,300 were built.

This particular example has had a remarkably uneventful history, hich is a good thing. It has basically traded hands between friends and family over the past 48-years and all of them obviously loved and cared for it.

It is believed that the car was sold new somewhere in the Minneapolis area. It was either sold new to the local area fire chief, r he purchased it when it was near new. He kept the car for many years and we are not exactly sure when he sold it. However, he next owner of record was another local resident who purchased the car and continued to care for it for many years. This owner then sold the car to a local friend/neighbor in 2003 who ended up being the neighbor of the current owner’s mother. Also, t turns out that this owner also grew up in the neighborhood of the original fire chief owner and believes they remember seeing it when new. The current owner lives in San Diego and when he got wind through his mom that this Continental was in her neighborhood, e had to have it. So, e ended up purchasing it in 2008 and shipping it to Southern California.

Although we don’t know a lot of the early service details, t is clear that the car was always garaged and well cared-for. The previous owner (within the last 10-years) had the car stripped down to the bare metal and completely repainted its original black. Aside from that, verything else on the car is original and unrestored. It is an excellent survivor driver example and a testament to its easy life.

The current owner has been in the automotive industry for years and certainly has an eye for good cars. Upon receiving the car, e set forth to preserve as much of the originality he could while also making it a great driver that could easily endure long tours. Highlights of significant services over the years include:

Master cylinder replacedEngine rebuilt (within last 20k miles/15-years)Transmission recently rebuilt ($2,400 and includes local warranty)Recently, he valve covers, ntake manifold, nd valley covers were removed for cleaning, epainting, nd gasket replacement. In total, ver $12,000 has recently been invested in this Continental and that does not include the bare metal repaint and engine rebuild which I’m sure would have cost well into the $20k range.

The body and paint is in excellent condition. We have pics of the car when it was stripped down to the bare metal, ust removed, nd repainted. The paint job is around 10-years old and looks like it was high quality work. There are minimal signs of wear. The chrome, lass, nd trim all appear to be original and in remarkably good condition considering the age. There is a small dent on the front bumper (see pic), ut that’s about it. The interior is very original and looks great. The rare dark green leather seats are unrestored and have some cracking. I like the originality of it and would not change a thing. The dash is very nice with just a minor crack on the speaker grill. The door panels and carpet are also in very good condition. The driver side arm rest is a bit loose, ut a brand new plastic replacement is included (see pic). The soft top appears to be original. The outside, eadliner, nd rear glass are in nice original condition.

Extensive work has gone into making sure everything works properly. All the electric windows work, ncluding the power wing windows. Sometimes the front windows are a bit slow to go up, ut they do work. The power top functions great whether it’s from the switch inside or the key slot on the rear fender. The AM radio works, s does the power antenna. The only items that don’t seem to work are the clock and the A/C.

Finally, he best part about this iconic car is the way it drives. Obviously it is a huge attention grabber. For a large vehicle, t drives very well. It is incredibly smooth even at speed and tracks nicely. The transmission shifts with ease. The brakes are very responsive as well.

Whether you are looking for a weekend cruiser for your local Cars & Coffee or something to do longer touring with, his would make a wonderful addition to any enthusiast’s collection.

California registration paid through July of 2016. Original California black plates included with car only if vehicle is sold to new California owner and is registered in California.

This Continental comes with all recent service records, wner’s manual, hop manuals, isc. small parts (see pics), nd extra keys.
