Car description

1968 Land Rover Short Wheel Base (88 inch) Series IIA. VIN 244342570 (proper but eBay does not recognize). 65,000 miles. This is a great daily driver. I have 4 of them and only drive this one about one day per week, ut it needs nothing. Original 2.25 liter petrol 4. Polished and ported head. Strong performer. This 88 will do 65mph and still has some throttle left, hough I don't recommend faster owing to narrow track and short wheelbase. Solid chassis, elieved to be original. Solid footwells and all outriggers. Solid rear cross-member. Original SIIA gearbox in excellent shape (BUT - Remember that SIIA's don't have synchros in 1st and 2nd and also use spur gears. They are very tough but double-clutching is recommended when going from 1st to 2nd and when going down to 2nd. "Touching third" also recommended before engaging 1st or reverse. If all this is a mystery - Are you sure you want to own an old Rover? Anyone can learn to drive one properly, ut don't expect a modern power-everything vehicle as you will be disappointed). ECR added a custom plate steel front bumper and rock slider sills on both sides, ith integrated Hi-Lift receivers. Also has parabolic springs for a better ride and articulation. 16 inch wheels with BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A's. Analog voltmeter and oil pressure gauges added. Stereo/CD player with speakers added. Modern alternator conversion done. Modern oil filter and modern air filter. I have the original parts to change back to oil bath filter etc. if you want to make this into a concourse vehicle. All work very nicely done. Manual locking hubs on front axles. Includes a terrific hard-top with the rare swing-up lift gate (allows you to keep fold-down tailgate in place with the hardtop). I will sell the truck without the hardtop if you are interested, ince these hardtops bring a nice price on their own. Hardtop is really only useful in cold weather. I recently went through the truck to identify all the squawks I could find. Here is my list: (1) The main instrument cluster works but the gauges don't read in the full range - both water temp and fuel gauges only move over the lower part of the range. Having said that, hey work. You could likely fix gauge or just replace it (new ones available). Never bothered me. (2) Missing toggle cover on instrument light switch, ut switch still works; (3) I have no idea if the winch works. I have the controller, ut have never tried it.

So why am I selling it? This one is done and the next project needs to move in (I like fixing them up more than keeping them).
