One of the ways was to create a trim package called the Golden Hawk. The Golden Hawk package was created to drum up interest in the CJ and drive some new sales. Buyers would receive a Jeep with unique gold wheels (missing here), special decals and striping on the hood and the body, high-back seats, fog lamps, and a new other bits. Nineteen-eighty was the only model year the Golden Hawk package was offered on the CJ-7. 1 of only approximately 650 built, one of the rarest and most desirable of all CJ-7’s.Made in Toledo, Ohio, this CJ-7 is dressed in correct Alpaca Brown with tri-tone Golden Hawk striping, factory gold alloy wheels and a black hardtop shell. The paint is in excellent order, having been freshly professionally sprayed on October 31, 2017 at a facility here in the St. Louis, Missouri. The Jeep’s bodywork is straight and solid and the tub is the original, the engine bay is also extremely tidy, The Super Start battery appears new with a Mean Green starter and the black bumpers are in very good order. This Jeep rides on a 93.5-inch wheelbase and has a 4,150 GVWR. This Jeep has BFGoodrich Baja Champion All-Terrain T/A light truck tires, size 33X12.50R15 at every corner. Each one surrounds with a original gold, vented alloy wheel. The tires are in very good shape while the gold wheels are in excellent condition. Underneath the undercarriage is extremly tidy with all new suspension including leafs, arms, shocks, shackles, steering bar/compression and ubolts. Under the hood is AMC’s 304 CID V-8 engine upgraded with a four-barrel carburetor with auto choke. The engine area has received a lot of new parts such as new plugs, new plus wires, new seals, new drive linkage, new radiator, new hoses, new fuel tank, fuel lines, new fuel pump, new high torque starter and a new skid plate. Buttoned to this motor is a Borg-Warner T-4 four-speed manual transmission (VIN code M) with a 3.55:1 rear end. Underneath the floor is a Dana 300 transfer case, a Dana 30 narrow-track front axle and an AMC 20 two-piece, narrow track rear axle. Driver convenience features include power steering and power brakes with all new brakes, lines and wheel bearings. Inside, the black front buckets and rear bench seats are in great shape. The aggressive floor mats complement the seats well, while the underside of the hardtop looks good. The black, three-spoke steering wheel and passenger grab bar are both wrapped in leather. The instrument panel has a full suite of ancillary gauges and it matches the body’s color, as do the inner door panels. A floor-mounted shifter and a new Custom Sound AM/FM stereo complete the interior. All the electric wiring is also completely new and is included with the wiring diagram. Also included with the original hardtop and hard doors is a tan soft top and tan soft doors. In mid-1980, Jeep's product planners developed a pair of limited-production Jeeps to create some excitement in the market. The CJ Golden Hawk available on both the CJ-5 and CJ-7, included a tri-tone stylized Hawk decal on the hood, tri-tone striping on the body, gold-colored wheels, tan top and high-back seats, fog lamps and a host of other trim bits. Competition to this Jeep in 1980 included Chevrolet’s K5 Blazer, Dodge’s Ramcharger, Ford’s Bronco, GMC’s K5 Jimmy, Land Rover’s Series III, Plymouth’s Trailduster and Toyota’s Land Cruiser.Jeep fans, 4x4 fans or anyone interested in a beautiful, classic four-by-four should be keen to see this Jeep Golden Hawk from the tail end of the Disco Era.
