Car description

1986 CJ7 Base Model with just 44k original miles!  Zero rot anywhere on the frame or body.  This Jeep has original paint and it is in very good condition!  Hard top has never been removed from the Jeep!  This Jeep was absolutely babied by the original owner and it truly shows.  I bought this Jeep from the family of the original owner, so I'm the second owner.

Since purchasing the Jeep, all I have done is cleaned it.  The paint as you see it is not buffed, polished, etc.  It is in very good condition and would be remarkable once detailed.  I purposely did not detail this Jeep because I wanted prospective buyers to see how clean it is without any work done to it.

Paint and Body:  Overall I'd call the paint and body an easy 9/10.  The Jeep does not have any dents or any deep scratches and has never been in an accident.  Whatever superficial scratches it has are not noticeable unless you're really looking for them and absolutely would buff out and look remarkable.  There is some clear coat peeling on both sides of the Jeep just above the rear fender flares.  Very minor and easy/inexpensive work to repair these isolated areas by a paint and body shop.  To me, it's only original once, which is why I did not repair it.  It is a very minor and does not bother me at all, but I need to disclose it.  The Jeep has a couple of extremely small rock chips, but for original paint of this vintage it is rare to find a Jeep in better condition. **For whatever reason in the main listing photo the door appears to be slightly off color.  They are 100% original doors (and original paint) and they are a perfect match.  I'm not sure what the deal is with the photo.

The inside of the tub is remarkable.  Super clean and no rust anywhere. I removed the entire interior so I could get a good vacuum and cleaning in there.  As you can tell, the tub is rust free and very well cared for.  This Jeep has no modifications, screw holes from aftermarket accessories, etc.  The aftermarket carpet kit has button snaps, but the original owner was smart enough to not drill the snaps into the tub and just set the carpet in there.  The inside of the tailgate is perfect.

Interior:  This Jeep is a base-model Jeep and didn't come with many exciting options from the factory.  This Jeep only came with the front carpet section, which is why you see aftermarket carpet throughout except for the front.  The front piece of carpet is MINT and still has the unused velcro strips on the bottom.  This Jeep also did not come with a back seat, so that was added by the original owner.  He cared for this Jeep so much that he put a cardboard cutout and little rubber casters under the rear seat as to not leave any indentations from the circular seat rests on the carpet.  The driver side seat bolster does have a small tear along the seam approximately 1.5" long....repairable by upholstery shop.

Gauges and Electronics:  Everything works on this Jeep.  All gauges are original and in exceptional condition.  Look how vibrant the needles and the colors are in the gauges!  When it comes to Jeeps, you can quickly tell which Jeeps were garage kept by the condition of the gauges.  These gauges are super bright with no fading, which tells you this Jeep was loved.  The lights, radio, horn, and whatever other electronics I cannot think of at the moment all function perfectly.

Engine and transmission:  Both the engine and the transmission are strong and run as new.  However, I did notice today (for the first time) that the water pump is making a sporadic squeaking noise.  I'm confident it is the water pump and not the belts.  The pump is still circulating water and the Jeep does not overheat...it just makes an occasional annoying noise for the time being.  Fairly simple fix once you take her home.  The T4 transmission shifts effortlessly and the transfer case engages into 4WD without hesitation.  The engine still has everything on it as when sold new.  No hack jobs, nothing missing, no problems!  Jeep starts right up even when cold.

Rims / Tires:  This Jeep came to me with aftermarket chrome rims that were peeling.  I had an extra set of OEM base model rims so I had them powder coated as they belong on this Jeep!  The spare is the original rim (original paint - not powder coated) and tire from 1986 and is in amazing condition.  You can tell with certainty that the spare tire was never used as it looks brand new.  The Jeep has brand new Toyo Open Country A/T P225 75 R15 tires with under 5 miles on them.  I mounted and balanced the tires (internal stick on weights as to not ruin the powder coated rims) on 8/24 and they are sure to last for years.

Rot / Rust:  Absolutely zero rot!  This Jeep has extremely minimal surface rust on the sway bar and that's really it.  Floors, frame, skid plate, gas tank, etc. are as solid as new!  The frame photos you see are representative of the entire frame.  Unfortunately Ebay limits vehicle listings to just 24 photos, but I have plenty more if you'd like to see them.

Non-original items:  As far as I know, these are the only non-original items on the Jeep:

Dash pad - Replaced with a brand new Omix-Aida aftermarket pad.  This replacement dash pad looks identical to the original.

Radio - Base model did not come with an OEM radio.  Original owner added the radio and antenna.  Dash was not cut/modified during installation.

Front bumper - Replaced OEM front bumper with a Crown replacement.  Original had a slight bend.

Rear bumperettes - These are Jeep YJ (87-95) chrome bumperettes, but they look excellent.

Well, that's about it.  I try to be as honest and transparent as I possibly can when selling a vehicle because nobody likes a surprise.  This Jeep is without a doubt one of the nicest, most original, lowest mileage base models CJ7s around today.  If I were a buyer I would replace the water pump, change fluids, and then you'll have yourself an incredible Jeep with zero issues whatsoever.  Please remember this is a 34 year old very original vehicle.  It is not perfect, but an amazing time capsule that has been very well taken care of.

I recommend transporting this vehicle due to its vintage.  Though I'm confident it'll make it across the country, things can and do happen (plus you'll have occasional squealing from the water pump annoying you).  You're more than welcome to come to my place, drink a beer with me and trailer your new Jeep home.  If you need transport, I have a reliable transporter I use from time to time who is very well priced.  I'll be glad to share his contact with you, or I can help you with coordinating.
