Car description

This is a first year 1981 Jeep CJ8 Scrambler SL (Laredo). Bought from the second owner who owned it since 1992 (has a great Autocheck that I can e-mail if it doesn't show on the listing). Based on the window sticker and Autocheck, it appears the Jeep lived its whole life in southeast Texas. No bedliner to hide any rust. The odometer reads 80k miles but is a 5-digit odometer. I do not think it's 180k because the Jeep is in very good of shape. It was his wife's second car. Laugh if you want but she was involved in the sale.I planned to make this my around town Scrambler but found a different Jeep that's been on my permanent collection list. I don't have to sell this one, but that's why it's listed.
I like making CJs more factory correct, started down that path and continued after deciding to sell. Someone can take it the rest of the way, modify as they want or drive her as is. Here are the details.
  • Original color Vintage Red Metallic, and prior owner repainted to match.
  • Repaint looks good, still has excellent shine but does have a few chips.
  • Recently striped with the correct SL decal kit for the factory look.
  • Previous owner replaced the silver stripes in the Laredo seats with red stripes. Not my style but the seats are done well and have no rips or holes.
  • Selling with its original factory 15x8 chrome wagon wheels with center caps (1981-only wheels worth probably $1,000). These Texas wheels had almost no rust. I stripped and polished them to shine. Spare is a painted aftermarket wagon wheel.
  • Prior owner kept the aftermarket tube bumpers, and I installed a new OEM-replica front stainless steel bumper. I left the rear blank for the next owner.
  • New dash pad, rear view mirror, frame cover and spare tire cover.

  • Odometer shows 80k miles.
  • Automatic 3-speed transmission.
  • Factory 258, straight 6 engine.
  • Jeep runs and shifts through the gears very well.
  • Power steering and power brakes.
  • Replaced brake booster, master cylinder and front brakes at end of November.
  • Changed fuel filter, spark plugs and air filter in December. Newer coil and solenoid. Battery dated 9/2017.
  • Sells with the original window sticker!
  • Factory console with working lock.
  • Bed looks good, but paint is peeling a little near the bulkhead.
  • Floor pans lookgreat and are shown in the pics
  • Reproduction wood rails are in excellent shape.
  • It has front carpet in good shape. Nothing behind the seats.
  • What's not working: Clock, radio, door locks, A/C (however prior owner recently installed a new compressor)
