'60 Jaguar MK2 Saloon - LHD 3.4L Overdrive - Solid MK II, Excellent on the road

1960 Jaguar MKII 3. 4 Solid. rust free example 4 speed with overdrive Sensational on the road Up for bids is this beautiful Jaguar MK2.   If you follow these on eBay you've probably found that they usually fall into two categories:  High point restorations that are too nice to really drive. or rusty projects that need everything.   This car slots right into a nice middle ground:  a rust free driver with great cosmetics and excellent mechanicals. but not so precious that you can't actually get out there and use it daily.   As beautiful as the car looks. its strong point is actually the way it drives.   The car is dialed in from years of stewardship and care. it exhibits consistency. reliability. and grin-inducing performance. Click to enlarge any of the images below. a link to a gallery of all of the enlarged images is available at the bottom of the page.   Finished in Sherwood Green. the car displays very good paintwork over a solid. straight body.   Tires are Coker Classic Redline radials with low miles. Both bumpers still show their original chrome plating. they have tarnished slightly over the years and the over-riders have a few small dents. Panel fit on the car is excellent; doors close with one finger.   Nice grill. emblem and mascot.   All lights and signals work correctly. The tail light surrounds and door handles show some light pitting.   Again. they are original and unrestored. showing the normal patina of 55 year old British chrome. All of the glass are original Triplex pieces in outstanding condition. the windshield has been switched out with a high quality Sudglas-Kristall replacement.   The chromed window surrounds show the same faint tarnishing as the bumpers - presentable. not perfect.   Very nice trunk with no rust issues. The tool kit is one of the best originals I've ever seen. The interior has been completely redone with all new upholstery. carpeting. door panels. weatherstripping and windlacing. The seats are actually not leather. but look like it. feel like it. and somehow even smell like it.   The choice of material was probably made with an eye towards longevity and ease of upkeep. even my upholsterer friend was a little puzzled by it.   Whatever this mystery material is. it's certainly high quality and the installation work was truly impeccable.   Topping it all off is a rare wood rimmed Derrington wheel. a period correct accessory exclusively for Mark II's.   There are no electrical gremlins to chase down in this car. all toggle switches work correctly. along with the gauges. horn. heater. wipers. etc. Nice back seat area and excellent wool headliner. All of the Wilton carpeting is in perfect condition with no wear.   Wood surfaces show a little patina in areas. nothing warranting replacement though.   All window and door hardware is in great condition. windows all wind smoothly. locks all work. ashtrays are unused. The matching-numbers 3. 4L motor runs beautifully.   Starts at the push of the button and can only be described as terrific. this is a very nice driving car.   Some prefer the 3. 4 over the 3. 8 for its sweeter revving engine and yes. this car delivers on that front.   The car pulls strongly and smoothly through all gears. and the sound produced when over 4000rpm will definitely bring goosebumps. Solid and square on the road. the car has good braking power. smooth suspension response. and stays cool even in city traffic.   On the freeway the overdrive is only needed above 70mph and when it's engaged you're good for another 50mph.   The car is smooth and stable at speed. with no squeaks. rattles or wind whistling.
