Car description

VERY RARE BEAUTIFUL 1964-1/2 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE WITH LESS THAN 45. 00 ORIGINAL MILES. Hello. and thank you for looking at my auction. I knew the day would come that I would have to let go of my baby. but God its hard to believe its here after only 25 years of ownership. That's right. I am only the third owner of this beautiful Mustang and have been its sole owner since about 1990. I purchased this car in Los Angeles. California a couple of years after graduating from USC (FIGHT ON!) (see license plates in photos) and have enjoyed it every day since then. but the time has come to let it go as my own children now are getting close to college age and the money from the sale of the car will help them to achieve their own dreams and accomplishments. I won't drone on about the virtues of this car and the incredible pleasure it has brought me. but I will let you know I am putting this listing together in Colorado as I bring it back to California from Rhode Island for one last wonderful trip for me across country where I hope it will find its new owner. The pictures in this listing were shot two days ago in Hays Kansas so you are looking at up to date photographs. I wouldn't have driven 3200 miles across the U. S. if I didn't know this car would handle it with no problems at all. and the trip has been perfect as I am hitting numerous wonderful National Parks before getting to L. A. on May 7. If you email me questions and don't get an immediate answer it probably because I am somewhere in Colorado. Utah or the Grand Canyon and have no internet access but once I get to LA I will answer all questions that I receive. Anyway let me tell you as much as I can about this car. When I purchased the car it was painted the red color you see today. but was told it was originally Wimbilton White and I am thankful that the previous owner did change the color (if you don't like people coming up to you and saying what a beautiful car you have. and how lucky you are to have it. this car is not for you). You will get people taking pictures of it all the time. waving to you. giving you the thumbs up. and just wanting to talk with you about the car everywhere you go. and a lot of that has to do with its beautiful red finish and white top color combination! In fact. I think this car actually looks nicer with the top up. but I love riding around with it down 100% more. Since I purchased the car every year that I had time I slowly added or improved the vehicle as I could always being sure to keep its historic look and feel. but making it safer and more enjoyable to drive. The first thing I did was changed the front wheel drum brakes to power assist disk brakes using only a Mustang after market kit. to keep it as original as possible. but to make sure it would come to a safe stop. This is the vehicle that I took my wife and daughters with on afternoon drives so there safety was my upmost concern. For this reason set belts were added to the rear seat which can simply be tucked under the seat and the suspension was improved again with a Mustang kit so there wouldn't be any handling problems. Remember this is one of the very first Mustangs ever made and all of the kinks had not yet been worked out of them. If you are going to own a car like this you want to be sure its enjoyable to drive. Next I added the beautiful Mustang rims and B. F. Goodrich tires. as well as the dual exhaust that makes this car just sound and look awesome. Also changed the internals of the distributer to electronic ignition so there are no point to change or hasel with and for show changed the air filter and valve covers to what you see in the photos. Last year I had the generator rebuilt (yes 1964-1/2 Mustangs used a generator not an alternator) and the differential drained and flushed. both for preventative maintenance. I had the transmission flushed and adjusted and it shifts perfectly and also replaced the radiator with a higher capacity one that looks just like the original and added a six blade fan and fan shroud to make sure this car would not over heat as they were known to do and these improvements have worked perfectly. The only damage that I know that has ever occurred to this car happened last year when I was hit in the left front fender at a four-way stop where the other car went after stopping but I had already entered the intersection. As a result. the fender and the front bumper were replaced and I got a new paint job on the front half of my car to match the existing paint which was on it when I bought the car. No structural damage was done to the car as the person had come to a complete stop and hit me at about 5-10 mph in front of the front wheels. The car didn't even have to be re-alighned. So from the doors forward the paint is beautiful. The rear quarter panels have minor rust down low as is shown in the photos and on top near where the trunk lid and convertible top come together (paint is clouded there in a small area). I also had the under carriage checked out at this time by the shop that is known for their restoration work in New England and who did the repairs to the car ("Hot Rides" located in East Providence) and was told that while the torque boxes did have a moderate amount of rust. they were structurally sound and was something that did not need to be addressed at this time. I have never had the desire to restore this car to perfect condition but have had things fixed as needed or as preventative maintenance as I would then be afraid to drive it or would probably lose my mind if it got scratched or wet. this is a driver's car and I would grade it a 7. 5-8 out of 10 in condition. I am putting this out there so there are no disappointments. check my Ebay feedback! I want you to be as happy you own this car as I have been and while the pictures make the car look perfect it is not. and I have included as many photos as I can from every possible angle. Other upgrades that I have carried out include changing the intake manifold to an original 1965 four barrel and Holley carburetor to give it the extra power that you would have gotten from the 289 engine that was not available on the 64-1/2. This is the third old Mustang I have owned one being a 1967 coupe with a 2-barrel 289 and just before I bought this mustang a super-rare 1967 GTA Mustang convertible with a big block 390 and C-6 transmission (what an idiot I was for letting that one go. but I needed the money at the time and had no idea how rare it was). I am telling you this so that you know I know old Mustangs and this one is a dream car!!! Anyway look at the photos and bid as you want as there is no reserve and I am flying home to Rhode Island on May 13 without this old family friend. I am putting this as a 7-day auction with no reserve ending next Saturday night so there will be time to workout the logistics of the transfer to the new owner. I only ask that a $500 non-refundable deposite be made through PAY-PAL and that you contact me within 24 hours. otherwise the car will be offered to the next highest bidder. I have the clean title in hand and will include free of charge the original air intake. valve covers. and radio that came with the car and will be sent to your home so that you can return it more to original you desire. I believe I also have the original intake manifold. carburator. nbsp;and wheels for the car but a shipping cost would have to be worked out for these items due to their size and weight. Please enjoy the photos and let me know if there are any questions I can answer. I will truly miss this car. but I hope it goes to a good home!
