Car description

1930 Ford Model A Coupe

When viewing a 1930 Model A you will notice on the hardtops, there is a cloth/canvas covering the top. There is much speculation as to why this is and there are basically 3 reasons for this. Number 1 is Henry Ford was cheap! Number 2 is steel was in demand and would raise vehicle costs, and 3 is the technology for welding such a large piece of steel did not exist, and even if it was put on, the road conditions of the time would have certainly quickly bent such a large panel.

For consignment a fully restored non hot-rodded original edition of the 1930 Ford Model A Coupe. This small sports car if you will, with only 2 doors and seating for 2 inside and 2 more in the flip up rear rumble seat, it was an economical and somewhat sporty car for its time. Nicely presenting and definitely can show and go, turn the key and head back to 1930 in your new Model A.

Exterior
Simplistic yet wonderfully designed this chromed radiator surround car with flanking large headlights encased in chrome and dual bar bumper below arrives in two tone style with maroon exterior panels painted nicely and black fenders and running boards. Maroon also bathes the door panels and rear of this coupe and has an orange pinstripe running through the beltline of the cowled hood and doors as well as the curved rear. A black painted top for the "cab" with a maroon metal sun visor and that canvas center of the roof panel are all in excellent condition. On the back of the round back end of this car is a wood and chromed bar luggage rack, split 2 bar bumper and chrome bezel taillights on stalks hanging off of the rear curved fenders. As an eye catcher, orange metal wire spoked wheels with a chromed center hub cap are wrapped wide whites of the thin version of a 19-inch tire. A 5th wheel and tire as a spare are tucked into the passenger's front fender and wrapped in black vinyl.

Interior
Very nice mohair in browns and tans are covering the interior of this car. Door panels are stain free and have burgundy metal sills and shiny handles and cranks. A single tufted and buttoned bench sits in front of the original metal burgundy painted dash and is nearly perfect. On this dash is a central chromed "mask" style instrument and knob cluster and some pinstriping in more orange delineates the front panels from the burgundy faux painted wood grain dash top. The carpeting, very clean, covers the floors, and a long shifter reaches for the headliner in the center with easy reach of the driver. The headliner is an optional mohair and looks showroom. On the rear window is a roll shade in case you want privacy from the rear rumble seat passengers, who enjoy a tan vinyl covered tuck and roll weatherproof exterior seat for 2.

Drivetrain
Under the cooled hood we see a 201ci 4-cylinder engine, fully restored to match the restoration of this near perfect car. The engine is painted gray, has a 1-barrel carburetor atop, and a 3-speed manual on the back. All supple hoses and wiring, as well as clean black painted bolt ons have the look of a full restoration and mechanical soundness.

Undercarriage
With some slight road splashes all is well kept underneath with a solid frame, good body hangers and running board supports, and a black painted frame. We also notice a no leak engine which is nearly unheard of in models such as these. Transverse leaf sprung suspension and mechanical drum brakes are seen on all 4 corners.

Drive-Ability
All good, and all working great with a new clutch and the engine and transmission rebuild and ran like there was no tomorrow. Braking was mechanical brakes, but they did stop well, acceleration was normal for a Model A and it felt like overall I was in a virtually new vehicle. Cue the Charleston music!
