Car description

1934 Ford Model 40 Deluxe Tudor Sedan

A Timeless Original. Offered for sale is an extremely well-kept 1934 Ford two door sedan that runs like a Swiss watch. The classic Ford has been in Bakersfield, California for over four decades and it brings with it some documented history of its ownership by the late country & western singer/songwriter Bonnie Owens, married first to Buck Owens, then later to Merle Haggard. An original California title with her name, Bonnie M Haggard, comes with this great, original, unmolested Model 40 Sedan. Named Female Vocalist of the Year in 1965, Bonnie hit the top of the charts that year with her song “Don’t Take Advantage of Me”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WR0MW5WqwLE
Once a part of the Harrah’s collection in Reno, this vehicle was given to Bonnie as compensation for a charity performance she performed in Reno in the 1970s. Prior to that, the car was restored by Harrah’s, and it absolutely free of rust, it has a matching painted frame, and a two tone paint theme that makes it stand out as the special vehicle it is. There are no dents, dings, scrapes, scratches or other paint defects, and the sedan is festooned with chrome Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, white sidewall tires, and all of the factory brightwork – headlights, dual side lamps and taillights, dual horns, bumper guards, and the pristine grille shell - gleam like new.
Inside, the overstuffed, pleated leather interior is in fine condition, still soft and pliable with no rips, tears or scuffing, and the headliner, sail panels, and door panels are in excellent shape as well. This sedan is fully carpeted in wool and displays no wear or staining. The stock wood grained dashboard retains the original ivory faced instruments, and the crank out windshield, roll down rear window, window shade, and hood vent operate correctly. Attesting to its authenticity, the glove box bears the signed autograph of Merle Haggard.

The original 221 CID flathead V8 starts easily and purrs quietly. The reliable little mill is paired with the stock three-speed manual transmission, and none of the drive train, suspension, or exhaust system has been modified. The brakes have been upgraded to hydraulic brakes. The car is easy to drive and does not have any noxious leaks, smoke emission, or other bad habits. It is being sold by a private owner who has enjoyed driving this vehicle sparingly in the Central California area but now must part with it. After eight and a half decades of service, this Ford is ready for many more years on the road. Miles of smiles come with the car at no extra charge.
