No offense, but I am not looking for any trades unless it’s a high end classic Ford Mustang worth more than what I’m asking for this car or your car plus cash. This is not a pandemic sale. If the car doesn’t sell I’ll happily keep it. Cars are still selling and people are still buying. Please do not BID or BUY if you aren’t approved to do so by your wife or bank.

You are looking at one of the coolest and rarest Ford Mustangs EVER produced. A Factory 1968.5 428 Cobra Jet coupe. Only 221 R Code 428 CJ coupes were ever made, and only 102 were 4 speeds according to the Marti report.

This car was purchased new from Bill Davis Ford in Sebring Ohio On July 30th, 1968. I have the original sales invoice, deposit slip from the dealer, original application for title and much more original documentation including owner cards.

This is a factory Royal Maroon R Code 428 Cobra Jet 4 speed with the 4.30 High option rear axle ratio. This car was Purchased by a gentleman in Ohio, and then passed to his brother. Those gentleman were the Mani brothers out of Alliance and Lousiville, Ohio. They were racers in the Ohio area and they were heavily into racing. I have old pictures of them racing their 427 8 stack injection truck back in the 70s or 70s, as well as a royal maroon gold C stripe maverick, and also a Mani Brothers old school racing jacket with the Holman Moody Competition proven logo and Ford logo. This car was never raced but it was their show car and it was their pride and joy. This car comes with all of its history, documentation, and all of the MANI Brothers racing memorabilia. A lot of heritage with this car.

Alright so now I will try to describe as much of this car as I can starting with the…

Original Drivetrain Parts:

First off, the car comes with the Numbers Matching drivetrain. The original Engine block, intake, third member, and Transmission were in the basement of the house. It all goes with the car. I don’t know why it’s not in the car. The parts are nice. Trans and block look great. I didn’t have anyone to ask so that’s all I know.

The current setup in the car is a 428 Cobra Jet dated 8J of 1968, and the transmission is a Very Rare RUG-S from a Shelby or 135 car. The Cobra Jet engine in the car has a factory ford C7 Police interceptor aluminum intake manifold on it, but the original Cast iron CJ intake comes with the car also.

The factory –AA Carburetor is currently on the car with all other correct parts. Now read below for further specifics.

Original Engine Block 8E20 Date Code Partial VIN on rear.

So, the extra parts you will be getting are the original engine block, original trans, original intake, and original Nodular complete third member with gears. If the car does not sell for above 85k, I will swap the RUG-S out and put the Original RUG-AE1 in, meaning you only get one transmission. All other parts will remain such as the PI intake, and the third member that's in the car.

Interior:

Extremely nice 24k original miles Factory Interior. Factory Ford Date coded Seats belts. Factory original carpet. Original Seats and dashpad. 8k Tach Gauges. Original Door panels. Oil pressure gauge added in center of cluster. The interior is extremely nice and original. Immaculate headliner as well.

Body and Paint:

This car is an unrestored factory paint car. With that being said, maintenance and freshening up has been done over the years throughout the car. Hoses, belts, etc as needed. The car appears to have ALL factory sheetmetal with date stamps. Original Floor pans with ZERO rust, trunk floors, door, quarters etc. The car has ZERO rust and is incredible shape.

The car has the majority of its original paint. The only paint I think is not original is the hood and cowl. I can see where the lower passenger quarter has been spotted in and a place of the top of the fenders. The paint matched very well but I can tell. The rest of the car such as doors, fenders, roof, trunk lid, quarters etc all have original paint. The original paint is all very glossy and nice. The driver fender has some small cracking throughout as does the trunk lid. Hard to see but if you know original paint you know what I’m talking about.

The trunk floors are perfect and the car is extremely straight all over. This car had been meticulously and obsessively care for its entire life. You can tell that this car meant a lot to the original family.

The Gold C stripe and white paint stripe are original. This car is incredible.

The car is not a concourse perfect car. It’s an unrestored but freshened up over the years car with a lot of original paint. It has never been fully restored.

Glass:

All glass is original Carlite Glass:

Wheels and Tires:

Original GT wheels with Correct Polyglass Tires

VINS:

The car has ALL factory VINS. Apron stamps, door tag, dash tag, and buck tag. The owner was so proud he made small signs showing where the VINS were.

Documentation:

I have the original Bill Davis Ford purchase deposit slip, original title application, all original owner and warranty cards, original owner’s manual, copy of the original title, copy of original window sticker and much more. Look at all of the pictures to see each document included.

The car also comes with the Mani brothers vintage race jacket with the last owner name on it as well as the large picture from the 60-70’s of them racing a 427 FE truck.

This is a rare opportunity for any collector to be able to buy a car of this rarity, and a car with this much history and heritage.
