Car description

1971 Mach 1 Mustang with 428 CobraJet Custom Installed. One of a kind mustang. probably the only 1971 or later mustang in the world with a 428CJ in it. I purchased this car in 1990 and it had been stored for 11 years before that before my friend bought it and put a used low mileage(20k) 428 CJ in it(NOS). I have driven it less than 5000 miles since then. for about a year when I first bought it in '90 and a couple of months in 2000. The rest of the time it has sat in my garage. Body has been garage stored more than 35 years! The engine is a 428 CobraJet replacement engine that was purchased NOS so it is a Service Block. Heads are C80E-6090-N's. Internals should be all CJ but I have never really taken (had no reason to) the engine apart to check. When I bought the car. CJ's werent as rare as they are now. so I just checked the heads. Willing to verify its a C block for buyers that meet the reserve. otherwise its as is. B&M Starshifter. New Master Cylinder. no leaks in the rest of the system. Wiring was redone long ago(while I owned it) lights and gauges work. just passed Brake and Light Inspection. Cragar Rims and Goodyear V rated tires. Rims have some rust. bead blast them and they will be fine). Tires have great tread but are old. Needs paint but there is almost no body damage. just one small front end fender bender that damaged the passenger fender and dented part of the hood. the rest of the body and undercarriage are in very good shape. NEVER wrecked. Suspension was redone. New upper and lower arms. Tie Rods. Heavy Duty Big Block Springs. Rear Air Shocks. Bushings and Ball joints are old though and probably need to be replaced. Shock Towers are original and in great shape. Needs front grille. and 2-3 pieces of trim. Has drum brakes all around with booster. but should probably have discs up front. but i never had any trouble with them as is. Needs new steering gear. I replaced all the hoses. pump and cooler. but never got around to the steering gear. Its pretty loose but driveable around town. Car starts right up and runs and is registered but its smoking out of the right exhaust bank. See below. I had it appraised at Mostly Mustangs in Oakland CA. the most reputable Mustang place in the SF Bay Area. at $9. 00 (Reserve is less). Appraisal is one of the pictures. The appraisal took into account that engine needing a full rebuild. but the owner said it may be as simple as a leaking intake gasket causing a couple of cylinders to lose compression. You are welcome to call him. and ask. he definitely knows the car. There is no coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant so the head gasket seems ok. It never ever smoked ever before so I tend to believe its something from being stored so long. and I did replace the exhaust gasket at one point so that is a likely culprit. All in all its a great. sexy. "get you laid"(as my wife call its) car. I really dont want to even sell it but I just found out I have a new kid on the way. and the wifey wants it gone. You wont find a better body worth restoring with such low mileage that isnt already pristine or hasnt already been restored. the 428CJ is just icing. I know you could restore the body/paint for reasonably cheap and find a matching 351C for fairly cheap and get 30k(please look around. everything but the engine on this car is original except the engine) for it now. Originally when I bought it. I figured I would find another 69-70 Q or R code that someone had swapped the 428 out of for a 351 and reswap them. but I never really looked that hard. The owner at Mostly Mustang actually really liked the custom install (overkill. is what he called the custom install) and recommended just restoring it as is because its one of a kind and he had never seen one like it before. I'm not stupid. I know its value and I have a free place to store it if i have to. but its more of a hassle to keep it than move on. PLEASE look around at other mustangs. this isnt a "barn" find. I have had it garaged since I bought it. The WORST part of selling it is that I know I will NOT find another mustang in this condition no matter what I sell it for. so please bid accordingly. Even if you wanted to part it out. which would be criminal in my mind. its worth at least 50% more than the reserve. I live in Costa Rica now. and if you buy it you can come stay in my house whenever you want (within reason haha) as long as I get pictures as you restore it!!!! I'm not joking either. unless your are a racist. sexist. bigot or Bronco fan the offer stands :)You are welcome to ask me any questions and I will do my best to answer them in a timely manner. If you want more pictures or specific pictures of certain parts of the car. I will go take them. Car is located in Oakland CA. come see it before bidding and you will see what I say is true and what a really nice ride it is.
