Car description

Over the decades, Detroit hasn't introduced many models that came anywhere near the sheer impact of the Ford Mustang. Compact but not cramped, sporty but not ostentatious, the Mustang gave rise to a whole new automotive genre - the Pony Car - and left competing manufacturers scrambling for a response. Those pivotal, first generation specimens offered the added benefit of looking particularly good in drop top form, as this 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible ably illustrates. <BR. That... formula of long hood and short deck lid proved to be a rousing success and with one quick glance you can see how this Mustang's sports car sensibility combines with the convenience of seating for passengers in back to cause such a stir - both back when it was introduced and here in the present. It's just a flat out sharp looking car. The red paint it wears injects some added vitality without going too far and detracting from the overall identity and the array of chrome on board. From the running horse in its corral and the bumper up front to the properly classic-looking luggage rack and rear bumper - all is looking good. Your first inclination will no doubt be to picture yourself behind the wheel, cruising down the highway on a sunny day, but if you were to find yourself in less cooperative weather, there's a power black convertible top waiting beneath its tonneau ready to raise into place for protection that shows no pronounced wear or pressure spots and even sports a clean rear plastic window. The interior features the deluxe Pony furnishings, including front buckets, door panels and a rear bench seat that carry the signature recessed graphics and badging as they sit over black carpeting that appears to have been very recently replaced. Farther forward, the dash area just beyond a very cool woodgrain steering wheel has been totally refurbished. This is often a problem area, especially in convertibles outfitted with UV-sensitive black upholstery, so it's nice to see the clear, functional gauges, deep black steel surfaces and straight, uncracked dash pad that are in place here. One of the few other deviations from stock comes in the form of the Kenwood AM/FM/Cassette stereo that's very nicely fitted into the center - it blends in really well with its surroundings. In back, the trunk area looks to be in good order, with its floor lined with plaid vinyl and a full size spare on hand inside. This classic features period-correct power - the 289 cubic inch V8 under the hood is a member of a class of engines that forged a strong reputation for dependable power and long term durability, so much so that there are still quite a few of them on the road today. This one looks particularly good with its chrome air cleaner and matching chrome valve covers and it sits in a nicely detailed engine compartment that's seen some definite attention to bring it to its current tidy state. The V8 still wears its stock intake and exhaust manifold as it teams with a 3-speed automatic C4 transmission that's also proven itself over the decades. The view from below is impressive - the undercarriage on this '66 looks particularly clean and well-prepped. Power steering makes for nice, easy navigation as this iconic Ford cruises on its set of 14" Magnum 500 wheels outfitted with Hankook tires. This 1966 Ford Mustang Convertible represents the chance to own a very important piece of automotive history that's looking sharp and running strong. Call today!
