Description

1956 Ford F-100 Custom Cab (Big Back Window)
This was most recently - my uncle's truck who passed a few years ago. He inherited it from his father (my grandpa) - who purchased it new in 1956, so this is essentially a 1 owner (1 family) vehicle and has been in Southern California since new. It has been stored in an enclosed garage and started occasionally. It has been driven around a little bit. Starts right up and runs good, does not smoke. It will sit and idle for an extended time without overheating. I would recommend inspecting all mechanicals before driving regularly
Clean California title, registration paid up to December 2018.
*Includes extra "New in Box" parts with the truck
292ci "Y-Block" V-8 Engine casting #B9AE-6015-F, with finned aluminum 'Thunderbird' valve covers.
Factory cast iron 4 barrel intake manifold with a Holley #1850-4 600cfm vacuum secondary carburetor. Ford Motorsport Chrome Open Element Air Cleaner.
Vintage Mallory dual-point distributor and ignition coil. My uncle was known to use Crower or Schneider cams since they were located in the area, so it may have a mild cam from one of those manufacturers. It idles smooth and does not "lope". Speedway Motors ceramic coated headers with Thrush Sonic Turbo mufflers.
Ford 3 speed manual transmission, casting #C3TR with Hurst Floor Shifter
Ford 9 Inch rear end, unknown gear ratio. Seems like a "higher" ratio, possibly 2.75 or 3.00:1
15" Aluminum Wheels, like new tires, 205/65/15 up front, with 255/70/15s on the rear.
"1 Wire" Alternator with newer Group 24 battery.
The truck still currently retains its 4 wheel drum brakes with single reservoir master cylinder, and manual steering.
My uncle retired it from daily driving duty around 1997-1998 when he bought a new truck, and started to restore and improve it. He repainted it - it is a pale yellow color, with darker red "scallops" on the front. The paint is more of an "egg shell" finish, not quite "suede" and not glossy. The interior is painted the same yellow as well. I always remembered the truck being a similar yellow when I was younger, but he re-painted it a similar color and added the "scallops"
The bed was re-done with new wood, and fenders re-installed with new rubber seals. The inner fenders, radiator support, and running boards were painted gloss black. New chrome bumpers were installed. The rear bumper is in very good condition. The front bumper has some light rust pitting on it. New door handles, the front 'Ford' hood and door 'Custom Cab' emblems were also installed. New taillight assemblies with new lenses and new front parking light lenses were installed as well. The Speedway headers were probably installed around this time also.
New carpet was installed in the interior, I'm not sure if the seat was re-upholstered at that time. But there are no splits or cracks in the seat at all. Just some scuffing on the "piping" on the sides of the seat.
He purchased many new parts to put on this truck, but unfortunately never got to do so. Including a front disc brake kit, an adapter to install a T-5 5 speed overdrive transmission, and some new steering and suspension components. I am including these with the truck, see the detailed list in the description below.
Auto Meter mechanical water temperature and oil pressure gauges are installed under the dash, both functional, and their illumination lights turn on with the ignition. Speedometer and factory gauges do not seem to work. Not sure if they are hooked up or not (the speedometer cable is hooked up to the transmission). Instrument cluster lights do not come on with the headlight switch. Headlights, Parking Lights, Tail Lights, Brake Lights, and Turn Signals all work. The glove box is missing the liner. The truck also has no heater - they were optional in those days. Older "2 shaft" style cassette stereo installed in a bracket under the dash, does not work. I have another one, and if it works I will install before auction close. Has speakers in the kick panels.
There is some play in the front bearings and steering linkage. New wheel bearings are included in the disc brake kit. I cant tell if the play in the steering is from the box, part of the linkage, or the Pitman arm. Driving it, it drives straight and any play does not seem to be any more than expected of a vehicle this age.
I cannot find any rust on the body, or under the car, other than surface rust. The only thing I could find looked like some evidence of a minor accident - in the inner fender on the passengers side. Some of the sheet metal is slightly bent, it is not rusted - it is still very thick and strong. Above it there was some small plates welded in, there are some dents or "rippling" in the passengers side running board also - (see pics.)
There is a crack or "bubbling" in the paint in the bed, on the cab side. There is also some scratches in the LF fender in the red portion that have been touched up (see pics)
All of the glass is in great shape - no cracks or rock chips. The rear window seal is cracked and split - he had a new seal still in the package - so he probably intended to replace it as well - the new seal is included with the truck.
