Car description

OVERVIEW:The new 1941 Ford models introduced fresh styling and a revamped chassis. With a longer wheelbase of 114” and a wider body they offered a roomier interior than previous years. The Super Deluxe was the top of the line model and the 4-passenger Club Coupe had a production total of 10,796 units built. V8 equipped models weighed in at 3,001 lbs. This Canadian built car carries serial number 2A6829.

This car was bought new by Reverend Mohr in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan in 1941. There is a record of all owners since that time, along with a large folder of receipts dating back as far as the mid 1960’s.It remained in Saskatchewan, western Canada all those years until acquired by its present owner in 1998 and brought to southern Alberta. He restored the car over the next several years and it was back on the road in 2006.

Since that time it has been regularly maintained and serviced, keeping it in reliable running order. It has also travelled about five thousand trouble free miles to where the odometer now reads 72,387 original miles. The car has been kept in indoor heated storage and remains in very good presentable and roadworthy condition in all respects.

It remains as originally equipped apart from engine related enhancements. The 1947 flathead sports performance and dress up items, and has that sweet dual exhaust rumble that only comes from a flathead Ford. This listing provides many more details as you scroll thru, followed by a link to a photo album of 139 pics.

DRIVETRAIN:The engine is a 1947 Ford flathead V8, 239 ci., factory rated at 100 hp. The professionally rebuilt block was fitted with .030 oversize pistons. With approx. 5,000 miles since assembly it is just nicely broken in.It starts easily, sounds good, and runs smooth with no smoke. The engine compartment is relatively clean and tidy, and hinge springs are new.

Dual Holley 94 carburetors are rebuilt and sporting chrome air cleaners, mounted on an Offenhauser intake.Fuel pump is electric with an in-line pressure regulator and full-flow filter.Edelbrock finned aluminum heads with chrome acorn nuts.Cloth covered plug wires.

The radiator was flushed and shows no leaks, tanks are good. The rebuilt water pumps were fitted with turbine impellers for better flow.A modern spin-on oil filter adapter is within easy reach.Belts, hoses, and wiring all appear to be in good condition.

The rest of the driveline is correct and original. It has a 3-speed manual transmission and torque tube differential.New clutch and pressure plate were installed and transmission serviced with new seals and gaskets.Rear differential received new bearings, seals and gaskets. New U-joints.

CHASSIS:This car rides on a 114” wheelbase. The original frame is solid and rust free with no signs of collision damage. All chassis components are as original. The frame was sandblasted, epoxy primed and painted black. Has some overspray of body color.

Today the underside simply shows the road dirt and dust of its miles and years since restoration. The owner lives in a rural area where some gravel is unavoidable, so a bit of gravel rash and surface rust has appeared on the outer rails but could be easily cleaned up.

Suspension is original transverse leaf springs with knee action shocks. New shackles, pins, bushings and links installed and all in good condition. The car holds a proper stance.Steering box was rebuilt with new worm gear, bearings and seals.New kingpins, tie rod ends and wheel bearings installed.

Rebuilt brake system with new master and wheel cylinders, lines, shoes and rear drums.Dual exhaust system with Smithy mufflers in very good condition, has a nice rumble.Fuel tank was cleaned and lined, no leaks, minor creases at the rear corners.

The tires are Coker Classic wide white wall 6.00x16 bias plies with excellent tread remaining, only about 2,000 miles on them. They are mounted on original steel wheels, sporting original trim rings and new hubcaps. The spare is a non-matching original.

BODY & PAINT:Having spent its life in a fairly dry western climate the car was relatively solid prior to restoration. Although there were some minor areas of rust out, all were repaired properly with new metal as required and evidenced by photos.Floors, trunk pan, and rockers are solid with no rust issues, as are the fenders and doors.Photos of original car prior to restoration show no evidence of collision damage.

All new body to fame mounting pads were installed.Overall the car and all sheet metal are very straight, but dents in the underside of the rear pan were disregarded. This can only be seen from underneath the car.

Door hinges were machined with new bushings and stainless pins installed.Driver’s door has 2 small holes from previously mounted door mirror which were accidentally overlooked at time of bodywork. Might be easiest just to mount another mirror or monogram plate.Doors sit a bit proud when closed, likely due to weather strips. A new weather seal for right door is included to replace a poor fitting one.Hood to cowl fit also not ideal but typical of these cars.

The body and all sheet metal were cleaned to bare metal, then etch and epoxy primed prior to final body work. The light Jade color base/clear paint finish is quite good, smooth and has great shine.New running board mats installed.

There are a few minor blemishes in the paint that can likely be attributed to poor prep. There are a couple of small blisters, about an inch long, along the body line of the left rear fender. They are not easily noticed. The worst is a large chip which is peeling above the drip rail just back of the right rear quarter window.

Otherwise there are very few very small stone chips. With body and paint work being over 12 years old, any problem areas would have all surfaced by now, and those are the few minor issued that have been noted. There should not be any hidden surprises or secrets with this car.

ELECTRICAL:The car retains its 6-volt electrical system and is equipped with a 6-volt alternator. New battery in Oct. 2017.New wiring was installed, and an extra ground cable is run to the starter.Nice original gauges and speedometer in working order. The speedo needle drags a bit and owner suspects too much lube on the cable.

The radio is in working order, and a radio delete plate is included. There is no clock in the car but one does come with it, condition unknown. The car is equipped with turn signals. All lights in working order, and all glass lenses on the front park and rear tail lights are in good condition.

Heater and defroster work, as do the original horns.Vacuum wipers in working order as well.

INTERIOR:New taupe colored door and rear side panels, headliner and windlacing are correct quality reproductions from LeBaron Bonney. In some pics the side panels may appear a bit purple in color, they are not, they are a taupe tan color. Likely due to camera flash and monitor viewing angle.Front seat was reupholstered with new padding in color appropriate generic material.Rear seat is nice original with no tears or serious wear.New kick panels and parcel shelf, sun visors recovered.New front rubber mat, pedal pads, and rear carpet.

Dash, window garnish moldings, and rear ash trays have been woodgrained by the owner. This was done prior to finding the radio and with the delete plate in place, as evidenced around the radio faceplate.Original dash knobs intact.

It has chrome inside windshield surround, divider, and speaker grille. The door and window crank handles and escutcheons are very nice. The steering wheel has some cracks on the rim and hub. Sports a nice original horn ring and button.New steering column bearings were installed.

All weather-strips, including the trunk, are in good condition, soft and pliable, not torn.Comes with new weather-strip for right door, not installed.New window rubber seals throughout. All window channels and glass sweepers were replaced with new. Both windshields replaced with new, and in good condition. All other glass is original with no cracks, but there is some minor delamination along the edges of the vent and rear quarter glass.Door windows roll up and down smoothly.

The trunk area is solid and shows no rust issues.New reproduction rubber mat installed.

Most brightwork on the car is in good to excellent condition. Both front and rear bumpers and the guards are re-chromed originals and are in excellent condition.

The center grille was rechromed but the upper wing corners were not properly repaired and still show cracks and pinholes. A nice original replacement was located and goes with the car. It is in pretty nice condition with only 3 vertical bars having splits. A good plater should be able to turn this one into a real nice piece.

The lower side grilles are very nice.New ‘Super Deluxe’ script on front.New reproduction headlamp bezels, fender lamps, and tail lights.New repro outside door handles and locks. Both door handles droop, likely some wear in the latch mechanisms or weak return spring.Nice trunk handle.

Hood and body side stainless moldings are originals with good shine, overall in good condition but some minor dings and imperfections present on some. Easily repaired and polished.New driver door peep mirror. The hubcaps are new repros and very nice, trim rings are originals with minor dings.Accessory stainless exhaust tips with V8 logo.

SUMMARY:Extras going with the car include a spare gauge cluster and clock, a center grille, and an original shop manual and chassis parts catalog. The owner will also provide the complete historical and receipt file, along with the photo album of restoration pics.
