Car description

1971 Ford Ranger XLT This truck has spent nearly its entire life as a farm truck in rural Eastern Oregon. Several years ago I inherited the truck and had big plans to restore it and use it as my daily driver. That dream went about as far as spending over $1700 on body work and a paint job about five years ago. I drove it for a while after that. but soon realized that getting 11-13mpg with gas at $4 per gallon was sucking my pocket book dry faster than the tank! Alas. I ended up parking the truck in about 2011 or 12. Prior to parking the truck. it had been completely tuned up and ran like a top. but when I went to start it up to drive it out of the barn a couple months ago. it was idling rough and struggled when I put it into gear. After it gets going it seems to run ok with plenty of power. but it seems that it now needs another tune-up. I did drive it about 15 miles to the store recently and it did ok. but still ran rough at idle speed. I am tired of putting money into a vehicle that does not really suit my needs. so here it is for sale. More pictures are available through flickr. go to this link: https://flic. kr/s/aHsk45jHGm Feel free to contact me if if you want me to send more pictures of a specific area of the truck or want to have higher resolution versions of the pictures. Here's what I know about the truck: The Good:390 CI motor that has PLENTY of power Newer paint that still looks pretty goodAutomatic transmission was rebuilt prior to me getting the truckInterior in pretty good shape for a 43 year old truckPower steering works greatBrakes were redone about 10 years ago with few miles sinceFully functional 8-Track sound system The bad:The A/C doesn’t workRuns rough at idle until warm. but runs OK past 1200 RPMAlternator or voltage regulator needs to be replacedAt times the engine dies when putting the transmission into gear. so I adjusted the idle up. This helped. but when the transmission is put back into park. the idle speed goes up to about 1800-2000 after the engine warms up. A little rust due to its age. There's little rust under a small lip under the hood and in the side compartment where chains go. There's some surface rust coloring in the bed and cab ceiling as seen in the pictures. There's some mildew growth in the cab due to moisture accumulation while it was parked. I think there's some mildew in the ventilation system also. This isn't too uncommon for being parked in the pacific northwest. I rented an ozone generator and will run it over night to kill all the mold.
