Car description

For sale: 1975 Ford F-250 4x4 Heavy Duty "Highboy" from the high desert of Montana, land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. This truck was purchased new here by an older couple and then subsequently sold to one of the many large ranches in this area. That ranch runs a fleet of 67-76 F250 HD 4x4s with 8000 lb Ramsey winches and flatbeds. They specifically look for trucks with the FE engine, 4 speed manual transmission and manual steering and brakes. The ranch has found these trucks to be the most reliable, durable and trouble free trucks ever built. They are extremely heavy duty, anvil tough, easy to work on and will start and run in any weather from -40 degrees to 100 plus. This original paint survivor truck has been worked hard, but well maintained, and it's in good running condition. Thanks to the aridity in this part of the world, it's also 98 percent rust free. Original jack, handle and lug wrench are still with the truck and the original manuals, warranty card and window sticker is in the glove box. This is no minty show truck, but a good honest working rig that should appreciate over time. I'll do my best to describe it below:
Exterior: Original Hot Ginger Metallic paint is in presentable driver condition. Hood is sun baked and factory Explorer stripe is cracked. Plenty of dings and small dents from a lifetime of building fence and pushing cows, but no cancer or rot, this truck has never seen salt. Only rust spots are small area at bottom of passenger side front fender and tiny spot on passenger door, (see lined Photobucket album for detailed pics) both from mud buildup that held moisture. I've removed the dirt and cleaned the drain holes, if you spray a rust inhibitor those spots should be good for a long time. Underside looks good, again see detailed pics of all areas including underside at Photobucket link. Flatbed is in good condition and it has a headache rack and a threaded provision for a 5th wheel. There is a small crack in the middle of each door, not noticeable, but worth mentioning, probably from ranch gates. Windshield is cracked and needs replacement. Sharp looking truck, plan on a lot of comments at the Home Depot or gas station.

Interior: Presentable driver condition. Door panels are not cracked, dash has a few small cracks. Seat has been redone and it's firm and comfortable, not broken down. Headliner is good, carpet is intact but worn. Needs a good cleaning. Most everything working, see function list below. Ready to use as is.
Mechanical:
Starts, runs, and drives out well. No noticeable noises or smoke. I think the engine is the original 360, runs great and pulls surprisingly well. I took the truck to a professional mechanic and he says the engine will go a very long time. Truck does not heat, even on 100 plus degree days. Starts in any weather conditions. Most everything works, see function list below. I've used the Ramsey 8000 lb winch, and it works great. Odometer shows 106k miles and I was told it's original. Transfer case does drip and will leave a stain on garage floor. 4x4 works in high and low range. There is a vibration at higher speeds in 4wd, plan on front driveline u-joints at some point. This truck came factory equipped with Ford's infamous power assist steering (Manual box with add-on hydraulic control valve) and when the valve started leaking, as they all do, the ranch simply removed it and put on a manual drag link, so it's manual steering. I don't have the P/S parts, it could be returned to power steering, there are bolt on kits available now that eliminate the control valve and use an integral power box. Truck will need tires as these are weather cracked. Good overall truck that performs well and is ready to drive now and improve it as you go.

Pricing/Misc: If you've been searching for a Highboy, you know that prices have gotten nutty in the last 5 years. I looked for comps, and found a decent 76 F250 4x4 with a flatbed (the red and white one) that just sold on Ebay for $10k. Other Highboys in really nice shape have sold for $23k and $25k in the last 3 months here. I've been told the winch on this truck is worth up to $1000 by itself. This truck is NO RESERVE and will sell.

LINK TO ADDITIONAL PICS INCLUDING UNDERSIDE (copy and paste) - pics in this online album, just ask if you need more. Photobucket site is clunky with many popups, just close them all and you should see pics. May want to use the firefox browser. I'm looking for a new hosting site currently.

This rig runs and drives fine, but flying in and driving it long distance probably isn't a good option. Montana is a huge state and it's a long way between towns. In many areas there are few services and poor cell coverage. Truck transport for this rig isreadily available, and probably cheaper than fixing rust on an eastern tetanus truck. Montana title isclear with no liens in my name. After the sale, I can store the truck for up to 30 days free, after that $100 per month storage will be due. Buyer needs to get insurance as soon as car is paid for as I will cancel mine at that time.
