Looking for a droptop for summertime cruising and it's gotta be a ponycar? We have the answer here at MotoeXotica Classic Cars, a 1965 Ford Mustang C-code Convertible with GT equipment added such as GT wheels, fog lights, emblems, rocker stripe, disc brakes, Autolite 4-barrel carburetor and GT rear dual exhaust.
Over the years, this car has undergone a significant restoration. The most recent significant improvements were made in 2008 -- new brakes, master cylinder, power steering and mufflers. A previous owner stated that, when he bought this car in 1996, it had the GT options on it and the receipts from the 1980s show that it had the GT options on it. He does not know if it was a dealer-converted GT or not but the GT options were very well done.
Finished in Caspian Blue with a blue and white Pony interior and a white convertible power top, this car was assembled on March 27, 1965 at the Dearborn, Michigan factory and was designated for sale in the Chicago, Illinois area. The 289 CID V-8 engine is buttoned to a four-speed manual transmission with a 2.80:1 rear end.
The paint is in overall very good shape, as are the windows and vehicle lights, all crack-free, clear and present. Car rides on GT wheels surrounded by 205?70R15 radials. The wheels and tires are in great shape. All of the body panels are straight, the engine bay is very tidy and the battery appears new. Driver assist features include: power steering, dual exhausts, front-disc brakes, power windows, fog lights, GT wood trim, GT striping, aftermarket air-conditioning, Cobra engine dress-up trim, power convertible top, mechanical driver's side remote mirror and AM/FM radio.
The Mustang GT version was introduced as the "GT Equipment Package" and included a V-8 engine (most often the 289 CID unit, grille-mounted fog lamps, rocker panel stripes and disc brakes. In the interior, the GT option added a different instrument panel that included a speedometer, fuel gauge, temp. gauge, oil pressure gauge and ammeter in five round dials. The temp guage is inoperable.
The blue-and-white pony interior is in overall very good shape. The white front bucket seats and rear bench are in very good condition, with the embossed ponies crossing the upper seat backs. The blue carpet is in similar shape. The two-tone blue and white dashboard is crack-free, displays full instrumentation (however, temperature gauge is inoperable), has woodgrain panels and factory three-spoke steering wheel are in very good order. The inner door panels are in good shape, while the mirror glass and white center console with dual cupholders are in very good order. The shifter looks good and rounding out the interior is a CustomSound AM/FM radio.
The Interior Decor Group was popularly known as "Pony Interior" due to the addition of embossed running ponies on the seat fronts and also included integral armrests, woodgrain appliqué accents and a round gauge cluster that would replace the standard instrumentation. Also available were sun visors, a (mechanical) remote-operated mirror, a floor console, and a bench seat.
Competition to the Mustang in 1965 included Chevrolet's Corvair, Dodge's Dart and Plymouth's Barracuda.
This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 57,502 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
