Few American cars can claim they created a new model niche but one is the Ford Mustang. We have another first-generation ponycar here at MotoeXotica Classic Cars, a 1965 C-code convertible.

Dressed in Skylight Blue, (1965 was the final year for it) with a blue and white Pony interior and a new white convertible power top, this car was assembled on September 4, 1964 at the Dearborn, Michigan factory and was designated for sale in the Richmond, Virginia area. The previous owner, out of Illinois, bought the car on April 24, 1982, the same date Hesco Parts Corporation, an authorized Ford re-manufacturer out of Louisville, Kentucky, installed the completely reconditioned engine, a C-code 289 V-8 with two-barrel carburetor. The engine is buttoned to a C4 three-speed automatic transmission and there is a 2.80:1 rear end.

The paint is in excellent shape, as are the windows and vehicle lights, all crack-free, clear and present. Car rides on factory wheels with the optional three-bar spinner wire wheel covers surrounded by Road Runner A/S Radials, size 185/75R14. The wheels and tires are in great shape. All of the body panels are straight, the engine bay is very tidy and the battery appears new. Driver assist features include power steering and aftermarket cruise control with dash-mounted controls.

The blue-and-white front bucket seats and rear bench are in excellent condition, with the embossed ponies crossing the upper seat backs. The matching gray carpet is in similar shape. The white metal dashboard with its woodgrain panels and three-spoke steering wheel with its wooden rim are in very good order. The door panels are in decent shape, along with the mirrors, center console, shift lever and center console with woodgrain accents. Rounding out the interior are aftermarket cruise control (inoperable) and a factory AM radio.

Documentation includes copy of engine re-manufacturer’s service warranty from 1982, complete with original envelope, Illinois Vehicle Registration cards from 1982 to 1997, insurance card and other information.

Competition to the Mustang in 1965 included Plymouth’s Barracuda.

This car is currently located at our facility in St. Louis, Missouri. Current mileage on the odometer shows 13,756 miles. It is sold as is, where is, on a clean and clear, mileage exempt title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
