The Coronet was Dodge's top-of-the-line offering for 1953. This particular car carries the legendary "Red Ram" HEMI V8. which generated a whopping 40 extra horsepower than the standard Dodge flathead 6. In fact. in September of 1953. a Dodge Hemi set 196 AAA stock car speed records at Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Economical as well as powerful. the Dodge V8 also topped all other American eights in the Mobilgas Economy Run. Truly the best of both worlds: power and economy!This car received a full frame-off restoration in 2009. Every detail was addressed to make it great looking and driving car. Laser-straight body was stripped to bare metal and painted in correct 1953 Dodge combination of Esquire Red body and Shoreham Ivory top. A sporty combination that really stands out. All trim was polished and re-plated. The car has excellent panel fit and finish. Please see photos. The interior was fully reupholstered in period style with modern materials. Seat belts were added. Includes spare tire. jack and a TRUNK FULL of spare parts. Please see photo. Mechanically. this car is a standout. The Red Ram Hemi was completely rebuilt. Upgraded to 12 volt electrical for fast starts and modern convenience. All gauges restored and function correctly. Alternator added to assure bright lights and fast charging at all speeds. The two-speed "Gyro-Matic" Fluid Drive (semi-automatic) transmission was rebuilt and shifts well. Brakes stop the car smooth and straight.
