1936 Dodge 1/2 Ton Canopy Express

"Dodge Dependability" was never better exemplified than by this rare, 1/2 ton Canopy Express.
These open pickups with covered bed were popular with contractors, plumbers, delivery services and grocery stores during the Great Depression. Being built on the 1/2 ton chassis, they handled like a passenger car. The ease of loading/unloading made them perfect for work around town. Most were used until they were worn out and scrapped, leaving few survivors today.
This truck (which Dodge called a "Commercial Canopy") somehow managed to survive the years of work. It was restored as needed and shows beautifully today. The body is straight with good panel fit throughout. Excellent "Dodge Blue" paint with a deep shine. Chrome was recently re-plated. Period-style turn signals were added. New rubber running board mats. New tires. New, beautifully finished wood top bows and framing, along with a new top, finish off this good looking rig. The interior is also excellent with newly upholstered door panels. Windshield and door glass is good with no cracks. The steel bed (measuring 81" x 47") is rust-free and covered by a removable wood floor with rubber mat. Plenty of room for whatever you wish to haul. Mechanically, this Dodge is excellent. Original flathead straight 6 engine. Runs smooth, strong, cool and quiet. Always maintained. Recent carburetor and starter rebuild and tune-up. Ready for the road. 3-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly. Hydraulic brakes stop straight and quick. All gauges work and register accurately.PLEASE SEE RUNNING AND DRIVING VIDEO.
