Car description

The 1979 Dodge D150 Lil Red Express is the bold outlaw that got us hooked on sports trucks. And so when you can find an example that had the same owner for 37 years before going into restoration, you're looking at a well-loved and well-presented example of this legend. The Dodge boys were truly flying in the face of regulations as they allowed their cop motor to hit the streets. A loophole let it go into trucks,... so they decided to be as bold as possible with their defiance. That's how you get a Canyon Red truck with glossy oak wood bolted to the sides. And oh yeah, there are two gleaming vertical exhaust stacks extending above the roof line. But being a rebel didn't come cheap, and Dodge only sold around 5,120 examples in 1979 - the final year of this rare two-year offering. This example was with the same owner from new until 2016, and then the truck was given a restoration. That means the red has an extra bold presentation from a modern clear coat shine; the bumpers are mirror-like; and all that wood has been expertly refinished. In fact, the lumber in the bed gets extra protection thanks to a custom tonneau cover. The interior is the perfect mix of pickup and performance, and the seat shows this off the best. You have a wide bench that can sit three across. But when the folding armrest is down, there is the kind of induvial comfort you'll find in the best muscle cars. The black of the seats coordinate with the door panels, dash, and custom floor mats for a deep and dark presentation. The classic Mopar Tuff steering wheel is the kind of thing you'd expect in a Challenger, and so it looks great here. And beyond that the driver-oriented dash has been upgraded so it not only has a nice wood trim, but also an AM/FM/cassette stereo and VDO tachometer. The motor is a big part of the appeal of the Lil Red Express, and so it's great to see this one ready to show off. The blue block, bright valve covers, and matching air topper with special callouts stand out nicely against the tidy red engine bay. And while this is a low mileage machine (averaging less than 1,500 miles annually,) the motor was rebuilt about 7,000 miles ago. It's a correct cop motor with super-flow heads and a hotter cam. It's now topped with a Edelbrock 600 CFM four-barrel carburetor, and there's even an aluminum radiator to keep the hot V8 running cool. One piece that can never be improved on is the set of exhaust stacks that offer a unique high-rise high-performance soundtrack. And while this is meant to be the ultimate outlaw truck, it's quite easy to tame on the streets thanks to the limited slip rear end, thick front sway bar, Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes. Plus, the front and rear suspensions have had recent investments to truly keep this a comfortable cruiser. The sale comes complete with a ton of paperwork, including the original window sticker, bill of sale, owner's manual, warranty card, dealer invoice, service manuals, title documentation, and build receipts. This is the rare outlaw pickup that has the right history and the right investments. It's a total package classic that will be gone soon, so don't miss you chance. Call today!!!
