Car description

1989 Dodge Shadow Shelby CSX - VNT Strikingly Original Well Preserved David: 303.947.0444

Chrysler invented the turbo charged inter cooled front drive road burner. About 10 years too early. Long before Subaru ever was considered a performance car, front wheel drive Chryslers were embarrassing Porches at the track and Corvettes at the stop light drags. Starting with the Omni GLH, Carol Shelby was enlisted to take everyday cars and turn them into surprising performance cars. The CSX was the last of those vehicles. A completed Dodge Shadow was shipped to Whittier, California and disassembled and modified. Interior, engine, suspension, and exterior all had the hands of Shelby laid upon them. The result was striking. The Whitier facility is the same place where the legendary Shelby Mustangs were converted from original mundane cars to the insane collectibles they are today.

About the Car: The original variable nozzle turbo is in place, the body work including the front air dam is complete. It’s never been modified for racing and other than a few minor paint defects, and a tiny wear area on the drivers seat, it appears as it did new. Driving this car is unlike driving most any turbo automobile except for the very latest ones. The VNT (a technology which is used on many cars today but made its first production debut on this car) delivers incredible low end torque combined with 15 PSI worth of torque steering, steering wheel jerking, tire chirping, blow your hair back FUN with the application of your right foot. This a well kept, non restored automobile that is one of the better examples of one of the only 500 ever produced, 502 including two prototypes

What’s Wrong: As pictured, the original finish on the black part of the front bumper is slightly stained and the rear bumper gold accent has a minor chip in it. The front seats on the bolster side (the non Shelby cloth) has some wear marks on it (pictured) and therefore is easily replaceable. Original Shelby decal on the windshield needs replaced (pictured). Recent repairs include: New A/C compressor, four new Goodyear tires, car is ready to go!

With only 48,000 miles on it, this slalom ready piece of Chrysler history is as exclusive in production as many of the great Chrysler collectible vehicles. It is going to become one of the more collectible front wheel drive factory tuner vehicles as time goes on. This cars were never given the respect they deserve, so out of the 502 examples, very few still exist. And none of them in the condition of this one.

As with all NGDCARS offerings and unlike most collector vehicles, this car is completely drivable. Many collector cars are just shiny, pretty things, this one is beautiful and is fully capable of being driven and enjoyed.
