Car description

1969 Dodge Dart GTS M Code 440
Here it is! A RARE and REAL M Code 440 Dart GTS. The biggest cubic inch engine the factory EVER put into a Dart in any year and they only built 640 total in 1969. As you might guess, most 440 Darts were used for drag racing and this car is no exception. A big engine shoehorned into a small body made for a fast car! This car was bought new at White Bear Dodge in Minnesota at a Dick Landy Drag racing clinic in the Spring of ‘69. Being at the end of production of the 440 Dart and in the last batch made, this car was one of the last ones built. The original owner is a personal friend of mine and at the age of 72 he owns and runs a speed shop and he is still competitively drag racing today!
This nice car is basically an unrestored car with several improvements and maintenance work done on it over the years. It was used as a weekend racer by the original owner for the first decade he had it. Sometime in the ‘80’s he had the car repainted in the original B5 Blue color and soon there after pretty much retired it to storage into the back of his shop. The mileage on the car today is 39K and it is actual. Virtually no winter driving was ever done with the car so it wasn’t subjected to the harsh Minnesota winters and salty roads so there is no rust or corrosion on the car!
The original owner still had this car up until just a few years ago and he kept extensive documentation for the car and it’s racing history. I have a photo book and file folder filled with original dealership documents, receipts, invoice, owners manual, warranty book, etc. There is also loads of time slips, dash plaques, winners plaques, newspaper clippings of his race wins, local drag racing programs, vintage pictures and more! I don't think there is a better documented M Code Dart out there!
The car is in great condition but again, unrestored, so there is some “patina” as they say. There are a few nicks, dings, scratches here and there and it still wears most of its ‘80’s paint. The engine bay was freshened up and mechanically this car is 100%. The 440 is a replacement 1969 date code correct, no VIN stamp, HP engine that the original owner had acquired for the car at some point. The trans and rear end are correct as well. Everything mechanically has been rebuilt including the engine, trans, rear end, brake system, fuel system, exhaust system, electronics, etc. I have full details of the builds. It also come with a rebuilt heater box and the original carburetor. The car runs and drives fantastic! It has Mickey Thompson Drag Radials on back and BF Goodrich radial T/A's up front. The interior has new seat covers and carpet and the rest is original and in great condition.
Along with the original fender tag, the car has its matching stamped numbers on the radiator support and trunk drip rail and the original VIN tag still on the dash. It has the original dealer invoice and there is also an original $10 paid deposit receipt, that’s right…the original owner put $10 down to hold the car while he tried to sell his ‘69 Coronet R/T! There were notes written on the original invoice indicating what to give him in trade for his R/T if he couldn’t sell it.
It was a hard decision to decide to sell this car. Real M code Darts rarely come up for sale. There are less than 60 of these cars listed in the M Code Dart GTS registry. This car is a very nice semi survivor that may have been the last factory 440 Dart GTS built and it is extensively documented. It's hard to beat that combination!
