Dodge Demon 340

You are bidding on a 1972 Dodge 340 Demon. Nice looking and driving car, but certainly not concourse quality. It was restored almost 10 years ago, and only driven a couple thousand miles since. It was locked away in dry storage until last summer when I got it. It was not running well, with old gas and gummed up carburetor. The only thing I've done to the car was clean the gas tank, install new spark plugs,and since it still ran bad, I put on a brand new Holley 650 four barrel carburetor. That did the trick and now it runs fine. Going by what the last owner told me, and he seemed very honest, he and his brother bought this car and also a 1971 parts car together. They put the 71 hood on, because they liked the twin hood scoops better than the 72s, which only had one large scoop in the middle.I think he said the wheels were off the 71 also.They are correct originals for both years. This car wasonly made in 1971 and 72. Yes, they are seldom seen today. They painted the hubs with the same paint they used on the car, and it really helps this car to stand out more. The painter did a good job, but the two brothers never bothered to clean up the underside very well. So underneath the car is solid but ugly. This car runs and shifts good, and is a nice driver. It would win trophies at local car shows, but to be a show car it still needs cosmetic work. There is no rust on the body. The door jams could use a little cleaning up and repainted, but for the price lowI'm asking, putting another thousand dollars in it will be well worth it. I'm not trying to make the car sound like it doesn't look good, because it does. But I don't want to make it sound better than it is. I have driven it only a few hundred miles, but whenever I take it out, especially at gas stations, the car gathers a crowd. Most people have never seen one. And by the way, if you don't know, Dodge is coming out with a new Demon in 2018, which should make this car more collectable than it already is. It's supposed to have 840 HP. Well, this one is only supposed to have about 400 HP. The 1974 engine is a 360 bored .020 with all new internals. It's no speed demon, (pardon the pun), but it runs pretty well. It has a 727 automatic transmission with a B@M ratchet shifter. Nice, quick shifting. The engine has long tube headers, and although the dual exhaust is 10 years old, it is still in great shape. The engine has a very mild racing cam, so the sound is just right. A little noisy as the exhaust pipes are turned out to exit in front of the rear wheels. Personally I love it. The interior is totally original except for the new seat upholstery, and everything inside looks great. The dash is perfect, not been cut on, and is only missing the original radio, and a tachometer was added to the steering column. The blackcarpet could have been replaced, but I can't remember if they told me about it. It's in very good shape, so my guess it's been replaced. You will like the interior. You will also like the exterior as long as you don't expect perfection. One other think I remember they told me: after they put their new paint job on, they went to a couple car shows with the car. Second time out they said it hailed for just a few seconds. There are three or four very minor hail dings on the roof, and a small one or two on the hood. They are hardly noticeable, but I thought I'd better mention it. Also, the tires they said were replaced about 5 years ago, and hardly have any miles on them. They aren't weather cracked or worn. They look almost new to me. I don't know what else I can say about the car. It's just as it looks in the pictures, and what I've described. Guess I should add that all the lights work well, except the dash lights. I've never looked to see what it is. probably just a fuse. It has air shocks on back. The only thing this car really needs to look better is new or rechromed bumpers, as they are both dull. New ones are around $500 a set online. They are the same ones used on Plymouth Dusters. So if you can't find them for Demon anywhere, get ones for early Dusters. OK, that's all I can think of for now. If you have questions, send me an email and I'll try to answer them. I can store the car for up to one month tops, but it still must be paid in full within 7 days. Car comes with a clear Ohio title, and original owners manuals.
