Yutaka Katayama. father of the Z car. would be proud to own this particular 260Z with its extensive documentation and history! This early manufactured 260Z was sold brand new with only 18 miles on the odometer on November 8th 1973. from Bob Low’s Arcadia Datsun in Arcadia. California to Mr. Strinz. The 260Z was optioned out with factory air conditioning. AM/FM/Tape deck. body side moldings. front and rear bumper over riders. center arm rest. 4 mag wheels and body painted rear panel. The total purchase price of the 260Z was $6. 50. 00 and was sold by salesmen Rudy Kelly. Mr. Strinz loved his new Leaf Green Z so much that he quickly put 700 miles on the car in the first 12 days of ownership and he returned the car to Arcadia Datsun for its first 600 mile service. He continued to diligently service the Z at Arcadia Datsun and had the 8k service at mileage 8. 90 on 7/9/74. 12k service at mileage 12. 20 on 11/29/74. 16k service at mileage 16. 88 on 5/16/75 and the 20k service at mileage 21. 86 on 1/7/76. The original Datsun service book is also stamped on all services above by Arcadia Datsun service department and also included with the original service receipts with each corresponding service! In the late 70’s Mr. Strinz moved to Alamo. California and continued to service the Z at Kontstantin’s Import Cars in Walnut Creek California (full brake job. 50. 62 miles in 1979) and also Livermore Datsun Service in Livermore California (clutch adjustment. engine tune up. valve adjustment and full carburetor service. 1978). At the end of 1981 at 74. 07 miles Mr. Strinz dropped the 260Z off at Walnut Creek Datsun for its 70k service which included new clutch. throwout bearing. and master cylinder. replaced all cooling hoses. service all u-joints and valve adjustment. In 1984. the car reached 87. 77 miles and it was time for an engine rebuild with a performance boost. The engine was torn down and the block was boiled and bored over. Higher compression L18 pistons were used with resized rods. new valves. seats and guides. The carburetors were rebuilt and a new performance clutch was installed with the fresh rebuild. In the late 1980’s. the car had 98. 00 miles and Mr. Strinz delivered the 260 to the Z Car specialists at Z Doctor in Richmond. California. John Vanek. the service manager. personally performed the condition report on the vehicle and Mr. Strinz followed his recommendations. The report and detailed $1. 68. 84 Z Doctor bill are represented in the photos below. In 1989. the body was starting to show some wear after years of enjoyable use. The 260 was turned over to the hands of Lafayette Body & Paint Works in Lafayette. California. The body was stripped. straightened. dents removed and prepped for paint. The Leaf Green paint job. overall. was over 100 hours of labor with a total cost of $6. 42. 00. The Z was placed back on the road with a shiny new paint job and Mr. Strinz reached 109. 72 miles in 1991. He then had Danville Service Center perform a tune up and valve adjustment. He continued to use and enjoy his Z throughout the rest of the 1990’s. In 2003 the mileage reached 117. 55 miles and Mr. Strinz decided to start planning for a restoration of his trusty 1974 260Z. He filled out a order form from Victoria British ordered all new suspension including KYB struts and Suspension Tech coil springs. New weatherstripping. hatch seals. front and rear window seals. new carpet kit. floormats. new pedals. Monza performance header. all new emblems. carburetor rebuild kit and new exhaust. When the new parts arrived. Danville Service Center installed the new parts along with all new brakes and master cylinder. After the mechanical restoration the Z was taken to EB Auto Body in Oakland California for a respray of Leaf Green and to install the new weatherstripping/new windshield. The bumper covers were refinished and the front and rear bumpers were re-chromed. The restoration was complete in 2004 and in 2007 Mr. Strinz relocated to Idaho along with his Z. Over the next couple of years Mr. Strinz sparingly drove the Z on the occasional weekend. Unfortunately Mr. Strinz in 2013 sold the 260Z because he was relocating to an area with no extra space for the car. As car enthusiasts. we all have to thank Mr. Strinz for his remarkable care he performed since day one with this special green 260Z. This Z is the most documented Japanese car that we have seen hit our showroom and the next owner will be extremely delighted! Below we have a current condition report of this extensively documented Datsun 260Z. This car was extremely well cared for ever since the first day it left the Arcadia showroom. With the represented history listed above the condition report gives the viewer an idea how the Z stands today. Due to the impeccable. dry condition of the chassis and body. This car went through an extensive restoration in 2004 at which time the body was finished in the correct “Leaf Green” 2 stage paint color (paint code 302). The paint is bright and still in great condition. All of the panels fit well. The doors open freely. do not sag and shut without problem. All the Chrome on the bumpers look great and also include the original accessory bumper overrider bars. All the chrome trim is there. in good shape. with the exception of a few very small dings in the windshield trim over the driver-side of the windshield. The chrome light bezels in the rear taillights are slightly pitted. and has a small crack on the inside of the trim piece nearest the plastic lens cover. but all the lenses and other lights are great shape. and hardly show there age. The wheels are a vintage set of Performance specialties (p/s). 14 inch polished aluminum wheels. wrapped in a nice set of 195/60-14 tires with deep tread and even wear. The interior gets even better. The well preserved Black vinyl interior seems to be the original as all the textures and materials are correct. The seats. still retaining the metal back breathers. looks as if normal wear and tear forgot about them and moved on to a different car! The fresh carpeting fits well for an older car and shows no signs of shrinking. eroding or discoloring. The Door panels are clean. and the top sills are not dried out. torn or ripped from sun exposure. The headliner appears original. with only slight wear on the edges closer to the sun-visors. of which are also nice and not sagging in your face. The original dash is cracked in several places on the areas most exposed to the sun. but still retains a solid structure and looks acceptable. While some people may prefer the patina. the car will also include a custom fitted dash cover that looks nice and conceals the cracks. The gauges are in fantastic shape with clear glass. no cracked bezels and all appear to be working at this time. Even the map light in the center of dash works. so pull out that map on trips and go old school if you would like. Rounding out the interior we would like to note that the hatch carpet. spare tire cover. and all panels in hatch area are also just as nice as the rest of the interior. and include the original spare tire and tie down straps. Finally. The drivetrain. Lifting the hood will display a nicely kept engine bay. and all factory components in tact and operational right down to the under-hood light!. with the exception of a high flow. temperature adjustable electric fan that will really keep the engine cool during those car cruises) The 2. 6 L L26 I6. number g26030230 is well kept. and original to the car. It retains the mechanical fuel pump. and twin Hitachi HJG 46W 44 mm SU-type carburetors. and it runs fantastic with plenty of power. and delivers it with the sweetest sound a Z car enthusiast will hear! The car accelerates with authority. smoothly shifting through the slick 4 speed manual transmission. This is truly a car you want to drive and own with full documentation and history.
