Car description

1964 Chrysler 300K Hardtop• Debut year for the ninth-generation models• One of 3,022 300K coupes made in 1964• 413 CID Wedge V-8 (code RB) with dual exhausts making 335 hp• Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission• Persian White exterior (code W) and new red vinyl interior (code M4R)• Air-conditioning, power brakes• Rectangular steering wheel and front bucket seats• Documentation includes two period advertisements and a second-place trophy Number 10 in the famous Chrysler 300 letter series, the Chrysler 300K Hardtop is replete with mid-1960s style and panache, courtesy of head stylist Virgil Exner. This is a seldom-seen car, with only one of 3,022 300K coupes made in 1964.This example was made in Chrysler’s Los Angeles, California factory on September 25, 1963. Finished in Persian White (code W), the paint and trim are in overall very good order, however there are blemishes on the hood and at the driver’s side rear window. The body is straight and the chrome bumpers fit tightly and are in very good original order. The engine bay is extremely tidy and the battery looks good. This car rolls on Goodyear Arriva radials, size P205/75R15 at every corner. Each tire is mounted on steel wheels with factory wheel covers. The wheels are in good, original order and the tires are older with good tread. Under the hood is a 413 CID Wedge V-8 (code RB) generating a 10.0:1 compression ratio, 335 horsepower and breathing via dual exhausts. Backing this engine is a Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission. Driver convenience features include air-conditioning, which is inop and power brakes.Inside, the newer red leatherette upholstery is in excellent condition, while the rest of the interior is in good, original order -- red carpet, headliner, rectangular steering wheel, instrument panel with full set of gauges, inner door panels, standard center console and shift lever, speedo and Odometer are inop. Rounding out the interior is a factory AM radio. The convertible returned for the 1964 300K, but the “cross-ram” engine became an extra-cost option available on the 300K only. A 413 CID Wedge with a single Carter AFB 3614S four-barrel carburetor, a regular intake manifold was the new standard engine. Leather upholstery was no longer standard either. All this reduced the baseline price by over a thousand dollars, and sales responded with the largest total ever; 3,022 coupes and 625 convertibles. A center console was standard. Following the poor sales of 1963, the company restored the convertible and dropped the price. The Chrysler 300K was much more affordable, costing $1,000 less but only because the cross-ram Wedge was made into an extra-cost option, and a single carburetor took the place of two (on the base engine). It still generated 360 horsepower and most buyers likely felt the sacrifice was worth it, between the cash savings and the far easier tune-ups. The automatic transmission gained a full-flow internal filter. Buyers had self-energizing power brakes, standard; revised tail lamps, a wider grille, and plainer wheel covers than the 300J. There was also a new five-position reclining front passenger seat. Documentation includes two period advertisements and a second-place trophy. Competition to this Chrysler in 1964 included Buick’s Riviera and Wildcat, Dodge’s Polara, Mercury’s Park Lane Marauder, Oldsmobile’s Starfire Coupe and Pontiac’s Catalina Grand Prix.If you’ve been searching for one of Chrysler’s classic, vaunted 300 letter cars, you need to visit MotoeXotica Classic Cars and check out this 300K Hardtop for yourself.
