CA showroom and any inquiries may be directed to us at 650-276-5400. Impossibly Rare 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray ConvertibleIf you’re on the market for one of the rarest. fastest factory original 1960’s sports cars to ever roll off of the Chevy production line. then feast your eyes on this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray 2 Door Convertible with black exterior paint and matching original black leather interior. It features one of the few remaining original L72 427 CI V-8 engine that’s factory-rated at 450 horsepower. the matching Muncie M-21 four speed manual transmission. a F41 heavy duty suspension. 3. 70 gear ratios. the factory Teakwood wheel. the factory stereo…and the list goes on and on. The sale of this very desirable classic also includes the original factory soft and hard tops. the Protecto-Plate. the car shipper. the original manual. the original warranty book and the original window sticker. Additionally. it came from the factory in the impossible to find Mosport Green color. which can be verified by the data tag. In fact. the current owner has excellent documentation dating back to 1966 to back up all of the claims he’s made. One of a Handful in Existence w/ Factory 450 HorsepowerThe current owner of this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Roadster informs us that just before Chevy began production on this model. an engineering change recommendation (ECR) was issued to dial back the Corvette’s horsepower to 425 from the planned 450. A select few of those who opted to pre-order the Corvette that year ended up receiving the full 450 horsepower engines however. which appears to be each vehicle with that equipment package up to VIN # 3000 (which was built in mid-October of 1965). This particular model is VIN #1850 with a build date of 9/29/1965 and it is one of the few examples you’ll find nationwide that did not come with the air cleaner sticker showing 425 horsepower. Additionally. the current owner has performed extensive research on this vehicle and learned that it was originally built in St. Louis. stocked by Harry Mann Chevrolet and shipped to a Princeville. Illinois dealership to be delivered to a Wallace Satterfield. From there. it returned to California about a year later and sold to Nathaniel Marvin. a known criminal who drove it up until he was incarcerated in 1972. It was then sold to one of his friends and kept 100% original until around 1990…which was its first and only full restoration. Approximately five years ago. this 1966 Corvette blew one of the original heads. so the current owner replaced it with L-89 style square port heads plus an upgraded Holley carburetor. an upgraded distributor and Bilstein shocks for better handling. We still have all of the original parts though and ample documentation to back up the entire story above. In fact. the only thing that the current owner cannot certify (but believes to be true) is that the 69. 00 miles showing on the odometer is the original mileage. While the documentation supports that claim. we do not have definitive proof. Almost Completely Original w/ “Harry Mann Chevrolet” License FrameIn terms of actual condition. this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Roadster still looks and drives like a brand new vehicle. In fact. it still has its original “Harry Mann Chevrolet” license frame. bumper decal and keychain…all of which are nearly impossible to find. While this is a much older restoration. this Stingray still cranks up on the first try and drives exceptionally well on the open road; the power. handling and performance are all exactly as a discerning collector would expect. Overall. this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Convertible is one of the rarest classics in this models entire 50+ year history and it is in outstanding physical condition. If you are looking for that once-in-a-lifetime find that never seems to surface. then we strongly suggest that you act on this one immediately. It will not remain in our possession for long.
