Car description

1969 Chevrolet 427 Big Block “COPO built” 4 speed Camaro

Another one of our treasures, she came to us from a car show in Carlisle, Pa. via a collector on Long Island. When we bought her we were excited by the build and the overall condition! When we opened the hood we were surprised to find she was not only a L88 big block, four speed, but she had factory air at the firewall ( how we missed this is a mystery-jeez). Anyway, we decided to add back the ac system to the car, new r-34 over-sized compressor with the original factory look. System blows ice cold with no overheat.

Now, for what we bought. 1969 date coded L88 (427) engine. 512 casting. The heads are aluminum GM winters castings with light port work, equipped with comp roller-tip rocker arms to fit under the factory valve covers. 11:1 pistons ( pump gas friendly), correct steel crank, equipped with hydraulic roller cam for reliability and street manners. The ignition has a billet aluminum electronic distributor that has an old-style look. She has an aluminum GM dual-plane 1969 4-barrel intake with the correct Douglass 2 1/8” long tube headers with 2 1/8” mandrel bent transverse exhaust, the tone is incredible! The transmission is Muncie M22 rock-crusher equipped with a Hurst comp shifter. Center-force clutch which offers very light pedal pressure and excellent clamping force. For safety, steel Lakewood blow proof housing was installed. An oversized, balanced aluminum drive shaft connected to period correct 12 bolt posi-rear differential with 390 Richmond gears. Also installed competition engineering slide-a-link bars (4 link) offer superior traction. She comes with an additional set of rear wheels and tires, “one-offs” custom made 275 Mickey Thompson drag radials with redlines to match the other wheels and tires. The car is also equipped with COPO master cylinder and front disc brakes, also a COPO sway bar package. Near as we can tell, all sheet metal looks original. Paint is code 59, frost green in 1969 called Frost Lime, without issues throughout. The interior was code 721 medium green, but with complete restoration changed to black, new top to bottom. Correct 6000 RPM tachometer and 140 Speedometer. GM tilt steering column. No money was spared in this restoration. Instead of spending $180,000 to $300,000 for a real COPO that you can't/wouldn’t drive. You can enjoy this car with all the bells and whistles…. Recap, she is completely restored, L88, 4 speed, AC, tilt wheel, 390 highway gears, extra custom race wheels, do we need to say more?

At a fraction of a COPO price, actually at the market price of a 1969 SS 396 Camaro ($59,900)!
