Car description

1953 Chevrolet 5-window pickup truck.I've had this truck for almost 20 years. I bought it from a City of Denver police detective.
I have a clean Colorado title.
I have a few dozen more photos.https://flic.kr/s/aHsmKZJN9AThere are some rough photos of many of the parts that are included. I will probably continue to add a few more photos through the week. Please send a message if you want to see more.
This is the best year Chevrolet pickup (in my opinion). It's the last year before the one-piece windshield and the first year of the side-mounted spare wheel with the dimpled fender. This one was also a custom color - not the regular green. I personally sanded much of the body down to the metal so I saw all the layers, Between the bed and cab was the original color.
Since I've owned it, I've driven it very little. Early on, a mechanic friend rebuilt the engine, reworked the brakes, and a few other things to get it running right. I think it's a 1954 235 truck engine. It has some sort of split exhaust manifold. There are 2 tailpipes. I think there are resonators, not mufflers. It is a bit loud at full throttle. I changed the oil pressure gauge to a reproduction 60psi gauge to got with the full-pressure oil system.
A few years later my friend and I took it all apart. I sanded and/or blasted most all of the body to bare metal. My friend knows a few things about welding and painting. He replaced some rusted metal with some of the repair panels that you can get from Chevy Duty. We didn't try too hard to make anything perfect. I tried to get a match to the original color: Coppertone. It may not be accurate. It's single-stage / enamel. We never really finished. There are a number of places where he buffed too much and you can see some primer. All that body work was done in about 2006. I didn't try to strip the chassis. I just painted over it with black.
I've been trying to put it all back together over the years since. It's become apparent that I've owned this truck long enough and I'm not ever going to finish it completely. There are a lot of new and reproduction parts. The truck was kept indoors for several years and has also been outdoors under a cover for a few more years.
The engine runs great. I put a rebuild kit in the fuel pump and the carburetor last year. The carb since sprung a leak. I think it's one of those little aluminum plugs came loose. So it's not really drivable like that. Also, the steering gear has a LOT of play. I used to not mind. I've grown uncomfortable driving it like that and it seems like it will be a lot of work to take out and put back in. Rebuilding it might not be so bad.
Otherwise, what's left to do: install all of the door glass, seals, felt stuff, etc, install the remaining interior, install all of the emblems, logos, a million other tiny details.
Besides what you can see installed, there are many, many parts that come along with the truck. I tried to get all of the parts that are needed. I'm sure I missed a few things. There's also many redundant, extra spares.
I used a new aftermarket replacement wire loom. The front parking lights have 2-element bulbs in case I ever got around to adding a turn-signal system.
I went around to some junk yards and found a set of the correct wheels. I had them blasted and powdercoated. They've been mounted tubeless, bought some nice new tires and they've held good pressure for many years.
I hope someone will give this truck a good home and maybe drive it sometimes.
Please study the photos, ask any questions. Sold as-is.
I will cooperate with a shipper to schedule a pickup if you need that.
I quickly took some photos of the many parts that are waiting to be installed and/or may be extra, redundant or extraneous. These photos are in the flickr album. I hope you can see the spare wheel carrier (there is also a 5th wheel and tire just like the 4 on the truck), an extra steering column and steering gear, more bumper brackets (rear maybe), filler panel for between the running board and cab & bed ahead of the rear fenders, the remaining headlight trim parts, an original radio (in very rough condition), new door panels & headliner, firewall insulation, rubber floor mat, mat, various mirrors, door and window handles, multiple quarter window assemblies, including one complete reproduction, various window trim pieces, interior brackets, etc for door panels, headliner, rear panel for seat - just a whole bunch of items to finish. There is a heavy aftermarket rear bumper that came on the truck. It has an eye for a towing ball.

Thursday night: I just add a couple dozen more photos to the Flickr album. Someone asked about the underside and I felt foolish for not already making photos of the bottom. So now you can see - looks pretty nice under there I think. Those drips and splatters you see are from buffing - not fresh pain drips. I never really tried to wash the underside or inside the engine compartment since my friend buffed the paint. I also added 4 photos to give examples of some places where he buffed too much and went through. And of course there are some scratches and a few dings. It's been over 12 years since the paint and body work were done.
On Saturday I hope to get it started and make a short video. I'll update here if that happens and I figure out how to post the video to the public. Otherwise I may have to just email the video to those who want to see it.
