Car description

Incredible 1966 True 138 SS 396 Chevelle with a 4 Speed Transmission, Bucket Seats and Console

One of my closest friends is the owner of this fine car, he has many cars and is wanting to sell his collection and this is his first offering. He and I built this car from ground up and he has asked me to sell it for him. I have driven the car many times and there was nothing that we did not either rebuilt or replaced to the factory specifications.

The car has been put back together totally stock with the exception of the engine and its components. There is so much to tell you about this car and I have attempted to listed all below. It is one of the finest 66 Chevelle's I have ever built and you will have a hard time finding one better.

This cool 1966 SS 396 Chevelle is a true 138 car that was built at the Flint Michigan GM factory on the 4th week of May 1966. Its originally color was N-N (Madeira Maroon) with (761-A) black interior. We painted the car with a beautiful Maroon metallic 2 part paint system with 2 coats of base and 6 coats of clear PPG paints and clear coat. Interior was refurbished with a beautiful flawless original type deluxe black interior, including new seat springs, headliner, door panels, carpet dash pad, seat foam and all interior trims.

The car came with a 396 engine, M21 4 speed transmission, 3.73 12 bolt posi-taction rear end and the correct factory rear frame support bars. The engine was changed to a custom built 468 Big Block that is developing 550 Hp and lots of torque. The engine has been painted to the original Chevrolet orange color and trimmed out with the original type chrome valve covers and chrome air breather. The engine compartment has been completely restored back to original.

The exterior of the car is flawless and is laser straight with all body lines, doors, hood and trunk in perfect alignment with proper body gaps. The trunk, floors and the entire underneath have been coasted with a PPG pigmented water proof coating to keep the metal parts of the car from ever rusting.

The motor and car have less than 1000 miles since the build. I built the engine personally with only the finest parts and components were used to build this awesome engine. The motor was a 1972 HP 454 bored .030 over, fitted with a set of Keith Black Hyperkinetic small dome pistons (10.5 to 1) and heavy duty GM pink connecting rods. The crank was is a new steel crank fitted with all new rod and main bearings, new HV oil pump, Awesome Lunati Cam, Lunati hydraulic lifters, new timing gears and chain, new cam bearings, new push rods, Magnesium Roller rockers and a one piece oil pan gasket.

The heads are a set of Oval Port GM HP 100 cc heads that have been milled .004" (just to resurface), fitted with the correct Lunati springs and all new stainless steel valves.

The car is fitted with a M21 Muncie 4 speed transmission that was sent to a professional Tran’s shop that specializes in Muncie transmissions. It shifts and runs smooth with no noise of any kind. the clutch is a Center Force that compresses effortlessly but grabs and holds for hard launches.

The car is equipped with a new set of large tube Hooker ceramic coated headers, new twin Flow Master Mufflers, a new 800 CFM double pumper Holley carburetor sitting on a Edelbrock Hi-rise RPM aluminum intake. We fitted the car with a chip-able MSD Soft touch Rev Limiter and electronic HEI ignition/distributor and wires.

This car runs very strong, drives and handles great, the 4 core cooling system keeps the car at a perfect 180 degrees, even when cruising the streets in the middle of a hot South Georgia summer.

This car was taken completely apart and painted apart. It has been restored from ground u, just about everything on the car new and in excellent good working condition. During the restoration we updated to power disc brakes on the front, updated to a 600 Delphi 2.5 stop to stop steering box was installed with the OEM factory power steering pump, canister and hoses.

The car is sitting on a set of 4 American Racing Torque thrust wheels The tires are new TA Radials raised white letter tires 60/15 series. There are new shocks and springs all the way around. It also has all new front ball joints, bushings, tie rod ends, end link, A frame bushings and springs.

There is no rust anywhere on the car and the interior is perfect. The car also has an original console, with a updated competition plus Hurst shifter. The Speedometer with all instruments are new and all lights and gauges work. Every wiring harness was replaced with new harnesses and all light fixtures were replaced with new equipment. The car has an excellent sounding stereo powering a great matched set of speakers.

This is a true 138 SS 396 Chevelle that was built in May of 1966 at the Flint Michigan GM assembly plant. Please see all of the features listed below. The car was restored about 4 years ago and has only been driven about 1,000 miles since the restoration.
