Description

RB Collection is very pleased to offer this very well-restored and attractive example of Chevrolet's compact performance car for 1965, the Chevelle Malibu SS. Wearing a very high-quality restoration, this Malibu SS hardtop is finished in Sierra Tan over a Fawn interior, a very understated and rare color combination. It is a genuine Chevelle Malibu SS, 283 cubic inch smallblock V8, originally equipped with a powerglide transmission; however it has been upgraded during the restoration with a four-speed manual transmission.
The Malibu SS presents in very good condition overall, with straight body panels, good gaps, and very high quality paintwork in the original Sierra Tan. Doors and decklids are properly aligned and shut with a solid, satisfying feel. The chrome and bright trim are all in excellent condition, showing no pits, corrosion or dings even on the delicate grille and along the polished rocker trims. The body is very well detailed, including important items such as a full set of period correct T-3 headlamps It rides on a set of iconic, chrome plated Cragar SS wheels wrapped in meaty raised-white-letter BFG Radial T/A tires; however, the 5 original wheels are available and included in the sale. Dual exhausts are tucked under the quarter panels, exiting through chrome exhaust tips for just the right look - tough, but subtle.
Inside, Fawn upholstery is in outstanding condition. Front and rear seats show no signs of wear or any damage, appearing fresh and unworn since the restoration. Door and interior quarter panels are likewise in excellent condition, with correct arm rests in place. The fawn loop carpeting is excellent, with tan, period correct Malibu SS branded rubber mats protecting the rugs both front and rear. Original Fisher Body sill plates are unique to the Malibu SS, and the car retains period seatbelts up front. Instruments, switches and controls remain in very good order in the restored, color-keyed dash and it even retains the original AM radio. As previously stated, the transmission was upgraded from a 2-speed Powerglide to a four-speed manual, and a correct center console and shift plate were used, along with a Hurst shifter. The interior remains otherwise stock, with a wonderful period charm. The quality detailing extends to the trunk, which is correctly painted in gray spatter paint, and fitted with a correct trunk mat. The body-colored steel wheel and spare tire are held in place by the factory hold-down and an original jack and lug wrench are in place as well.
Under the hood is Chevy's 283 Cubic Inch V8, rated at 195 horsepower. It has been mildly dressed up with chrome valve covers and a chrome air cleaner, but otherwise remains tidy and nicely detailed. The engine bay features GM branded heater hoses, correct "tower" hose clamps, and even the original glass "Optikleen" windshield washer bottle. This Malibu runs very well, with good pull from the little 283 and a fabulous exhaust note thanks to the headers and tuned exhaust system. The car features power steering and power front disc brakes for excellent handling and easy, safe handling. It is a real joy to drive, thanks to regular maintenance and care.
This is a very tidy and well-restored example of Chevrolet's first true Pony Car. Its excellent quality and performance will surely make it a great choice for cruising or show.
