Car description

Due to the economic downturn surrounding World War 2, many US auto manufacturers ceased production to contribute to the war effort. Because of this, many directly pre-war and directly post-war cars from the same manufacturer are very, very similar. With the Fleetmaster, Chevrolet did what they could with what they had and made a concerted effort to release a new car that truly looked new. While it shares similarities with its pre-war counterpart the Chevrolet Master Deluxe, there was no... doubt that the Fleetmaster took on a more modern look all of its own! This 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Woody Wagon is a rare example of a car from a bygone era, in perhaps one of the most desirable configurations. Woody wagons are uncommon for sure, but when was the last time you saw a Chevrolet? Purchased from the family that owned it since new, this '48 Chevy has been in the hands of the current owner since 1976. It has been a street rod since that same time period, while lovingly upgraded, modified, and maintained as necessary along the way. The paint and body work has been redone three times under the current owner, as this car saw lots and lots of use as a cross-country touring vehicle. Most recently, it was painted in 2016. In 2017, all of the beautiful wood was refinished inside and out and looks simply stunning. The paint is a gorgeous dark red with lots of depth; one look up close shows the attention to detail given to this paint job. The exterior remains mostly stock, with the noticeable exception of tasteful aftermarket wheels. One other modification that may go unnoticed to many is the addition of a second tail light. Originally equipped with one tail light when new, the owner of this car searched far and wide to find another to attached to the tailgate. A neat feature about these lights is that they flip upwards so that the car can be safely driven with the tailgate down while keeping the lights visible! This is what made sourcing another difficult. The interior may at first appear somewhat original, but has many subtle custom touches. The seats are finished in English leather, as well as the visors and all other soft items. The dash retains many original aspects, but is fitted with a full set of VDO gauges to help the operator keep track of what's going on under the hood. Additionally, a Vintage Air A/C system has been added; a necessary addition for a car built to tour! A/C coupled with tinted windows and leather seats make this woody one comfortable cruiser. A C3 Corvette steering column has been installed to give the addition of both tilt and telescopic functions. The front seat backs have custom storage pockets integrated that drop down as a tray and fold up into the seat. The icing on the cake is an aftermarket Pioneer stereo coupled with a full set of speakers for maximum traveling pleasure. If you aren't sold on this wooden goddess yet, just wait until you see what's under the hood! The drivetrain is long gone, with a Chevrolet big block sitting in place of the original engine. It is a 1969 block originally obtained from a Caprice that has been bored to 403 cubic inches. The 403 has been fitted with a roller cam and rockers, new pistons, and stainless valves. It'll run just fine on 87 octane! Additionally, atop the engine sits an aluminum intake and an Edelbrock carburetor. To keep the engine cool, this car has been fitted with an aluminum radiator. All engine work was performed in 2015, and the car has been driven all over the United States since. The transmission is a GM TH400 three-speed automatic and the rear end is Oldsmobile with 2.93:1 gearing. Underneath the car, the upgrades keep coming! The front cross-member is a Fat Man unit built specifically for this car. To accommodate the larger engine, tubular A-arms, larger brakes, and polyurethane bushings were installed. The bushings were installed in 2017 along with all four new shocks. The front brakes have been upgraded to disc. This 1948 Chevy has been done to the nines, and is a high-quality street rod cruiser fit for nearly any desired purpose! In the last 43 years, this car has been driven in 33 states as a touring vehicle. Just last year, it covered 2,180 miles on the 2018 Hot Rod Power Tour in only seven days. It has won awards from Goodguys, Street Rodder Magazine, and NSRA Picks. This is a turn-key street rod ready to show you the world!
