1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Hardtop Coupe Body & Paint: The vehicle had a "Body on Frame" restoration in 2010. Everything was removed from the body and the paint was stripped down to bare metal. The car still has all of its original body panels and floor pans. The only thing that was found was the rear quarters received two small metal patch panels. They were installed correctly and can not be seen. Knowing that this vehicle was going to be painted black, countless hours were spent blocking and sanding ensuring a straight body. The body panel fit and alignment is very good also. It was properly prepped, primed and painted. The color is Black with very sight Purple Pearl mixed in so the car gives off a Plum color at certain angles in the sun. The paint which has no orange peel or other problems looks flawless with a deep mirror like reflection. The engine compartment, firewall and the bottom of body are all finished, painted and pinstriped. The restoration was professionally done by Barberton Autocraft.
Chrome & Trim: The chrome bumpers look amazing. The front bumper is fitted with an upper deluxe bumper guard setup which is rare. The rear bumper also has the outer bumper guards installed. The rest of the chrome and bright work looks great also. The door handles are starting to show some age, so the owner has a new set ready to be installed. The stainless trim is nice without and dings, dents, or scratches.
Interior: The stock black interior was all redone and looks period correct for this car. The seats, door panels, headliner and carpet all look great with no rips, holes, stains, or marks. The speedometer. odometer, and fuel gauge are all working. The original temperature gauge is not connected. There is a set of three aftermarket gauges installed under the dash. A new Custom Autosound "Slidebar" radio was just installed. This hi-tech AM/FM radio has the look of the OEM style radio, but has a hidden digital display along with an USB connection and is Bluetooth compatible. The vehicle is equipped with power windows which is a rare option back then. All of the lights and turn signals, along with the factory clock are still working correctly. (Yes, even the original clock works.) The dual horn(s) are also working. The windshield wipes are working great thanks to a new electric two speed wiper motor. There is a floor shift bolted to the Tremec 5 speed. It has the correct mounting bracket installed so that the shifter doesn't hit the seats during operation. The large stock steering wheel was replaced with a little smaller '59 Chevy model wheel. It goes well with the car and gives it a more sportier look.
Glass: All of the "tinted" glass pieces were replaced when the vehicle was restored including the windshield. They are all in excellent condition. There are no wiper marks, scratches, or stone nicks in any of the pieces. The vehicle has power windows and all of them are working fine.
Engine Compartment: The engine compartment is clean and orderly. A fresh built 383 "Stroker" engine was installed in 2014. The engine has about 2100 miles on it and is performing flawlessly. (Approximately 420 Horsepower.) Bolted to the engine is a Tremec 5-Speed TKO 600 manual transmission with overdrive. The original 3.70:1 posi rear end is transferring the power to the road. The entire drive train is working great with no known problems. There are no leaks with any of the systems. Feeding this power plant is a Quick Fuel 750cfm carburetor that has been tuned for peak performance. (Vehicle runs great on regular octane fuel.) Keeping this engine running cool is a nice aluminum radiator. The engine compartment has a few chrome items installed making it really pop.
Trunk Compartment: The trunk area is clean and basically stock. It still has the original trunk pan along with the original black rubber trunk mat. There are no signs of any rust or rust repairs. The battery was relocated into the trunk area. There is no spare tire, jack or jacking tools.
Wheels & Tires: The front aluminum wheels are "Center Line" size: 15" x 7". Mounted on these wheels are directional 26 x 8.00 R15LT Mickey Thompson tires. The rear has Mickey Thompson's ET Street Radial Tires. Size: 255/60R15. All of the tires and wheels are in great condition.
Undercarriage: This California vehicle is solid and rust free. The frame and chassis is painted chassis black. The body floor pans are painted dark blue. The underside is highly detailed and shows very well. That being said, it is a little dusty and could be easily wiped down to make it look new again. The owner loves to drive this vehicle and takes very good care of it. He is unable to get under the car and keep it as nice as the rest of the vehicle. (I don't believe this car has seen rain in years.)
Nine times out of ten, people selling a car would not talk about or take any photos of the underside. The undercarriage tells you a lot about the car, that is why there are several pictures of the bottom in the photo gallery. Please view them all and see why this vehicle is better then most.
Mechanical: Suspension:
The vehicle has new springs and shocks installed. It sits nice and a great looking stance. The vehicle drives straight and true. It doesn't pull, shake or vibrate.
Brakes:
Power disc brakes on the front with drilled and slotted rotors. The rear brakes are self-adjusting drums. There are no problems or noises with the brakes.
Exhaust:
The car has coated headers that connect to a new 2 1/2" stainless steel exhaust system. It was professionally bent and installed. The small stainless mufflers give it a great sound with just the right amount of rumble. There are no leaks, squeaks or other problems with the system.
Awards, Shows, Appraisal: The vehicle has been to many car shows, mostly around the owner's area. It has receive many Top 12 Best Awards along with many ribbons, dash plaques and trophies over the years. The owner decided not to have the car judged anymore because he doesn't need anymore trophies or awards cluttering up his house. The vehicle was appraised a few years ago for $75,000 and that is just about what the owner has invested into this car.
