For 1968, both the Corvette body and interior were completely redesigned. As before, the car was available in either coupe or convertible models, this coupe with removable roof panels (T-Tops). Has the enduring new body's concealed headlights moved into position via a vacuum operated system rather than electrically as on the previous generation, and the new hide-away windshield wipers utilize a vacuum door. The Front fenders have functional engine cooling vents. The side vent windows were eliminated from all models, replaced with "Astro Ventilation", a fresh air circulation system. In the cabin, The interior boasts a large round speedometer and matching tachometer that are positioned in front of the driver. Auxiliary gauges are clustered above the forward end of the console and included engine oil pressure, water temperature, ammeter, fuel gauge, and an analog clock. The fiber-optic system appears on the console that monitors exterior lights and there is no glove box but instead it has map pockets in the front passenger seat. The battery was relocated from the engine area to one of three compartments behind the seats to improve weight distribution. She also comes with an AM-FM Stereo radio.
The chassis was carried over from the second generation models, retaining the fully independent suspension (with minor revisions) and the four-wheel disc brake system was upgraded.
The engine line-up and horsepower ratings were also carried over from the previous year The optional Turbo 350 Hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission. This heavily Modified Specimen is equipped with the 427 domed hoods for additional engine clearance.
Here's why....The previous owner choose these amazingly beautiful Centerline champ series 506 wheels 17x7 front and 17x9.5 in the rear mounted on Beefy Goodyear Eagle F1 Tires. The fronts are 225/55/ZR17 and 285/40/ZR17's on the rear.
In 1969, small block engine displacement increased from 327. The previous owner decided to install a 6M 350 (4) Bolt Block with Speed Pro Hypereutectic + .030 Pistons, TRW Chrome Moly Gapable Rings, Vandervel Bearings,Rods,Mains and a Crane Cam and Kit assembly, Crane Double Roller timing chain, Competition Cams Roller tip 1: 1.52 Rocker Arms, Crane Moly Push Rods +.150, Manley Push Rod Guide Plates & Bolts, Crane Cam Button, Accel Tack Drive Magnetic Pulse Distributor, Accel Distributor Cap & Rotor, MSD Ignition Box & Wires, Heavy Duty 65 AMP Alternator, Heavy Duty Fuel Pump, Holley 650 Double Pump Carburetor, TRW Motor Mounts, GM Flywheel, A-1 3000 RPM Converter, Complete OEM spec. exhaust system with Factory Correct Tail pipes and Hooker Headers, Signstat 160 Degree Thermostat, BTM Trans Kit,
BTE Transmission Cooling Lines, Hayden Transmission Cooler, B&E Transmission Modulator Line, The Machine work performed was The Block Boiled out, Bored, Decked and Honed. Crank was cut .010-.010, 3 Angle Valve Job, Shim Springs, New Seals, Cut for Guide Plates, and Resurface Heads. This American Beast is equipped with Positraction/Limited Slip Rear end axle ratio is 355.
"Stingray" script nameplates appeared on front fenders, now one word, in contrast to the “Sting Ray” name used previously. Exterior door handles were redesigned so the finger plate would actuate the door, eliminating the separate release button., The front grilles were made all black. front fender vent trim were options for this year only. On the inside, revised door panels provided additional shoulder room in the C3's tighter cabin and headrests became standard. Steering wheel diameter was reduced from 16 to 15 inches to permit easier entry and exit, the ignition switch was moved from the dash to the steering column.
On this particular heavily modified example. The previous owner enjoyed and cared for this Corvette since 1990. Almost 30 years he's treated it like a family member. It's never before been offered for sale. I have possession of some receipts that will verify my words. Address:
