1981 El Camino Electric Vehicle (EV) converted

I am selling this for a friend. I wanted to list this tonight, but did not have access to the VIN number, so I will update it as soon as I can. He has over $40.000 in the car, upgraded the batteries last year.
This is a 1981Chevy El Camino that was converted to an Electric Vehicle. Owner selling due to health problems and the need to thin out my collection of stuff. Would like her to go to a good home. It is garage kept in Racine Wisconsin. Never seen salt!

Has the original3 speed manual transmission (recently rebuilt)no clutch. Can drive in 2nd gear all the time. Will comfortably go highway speeds and about 75 mile range on a charge. 32 kilowatt hour 180 volt 50 cell battery pack with Manzanita 40 amp charger control with digital current meter. Controller is Net gain controls 1200 amp 200 volt. Motor is warp 9 with only a thousand miles on it. Dc-to-dc converter provides regulated 13.8 volts from high voltage. 1500 watt electric heater included in dash. Dual contactors for extra safety. Electric vacuum pump provides for factory power braking and 1 horsepower DC motor drives Factory power steering. Can turn with your little finger. Battery cells 19 and 21 will need replacement. Small dime-sized patches of rust near side windows. In-dash radio with DVD player and pop out screen may need replacement. Body is good and clean, was a Florida vehicle and garage kept in Wisconsin. Never saw salt. Interior is original and in fair condition. There is a storage trunk behind the front seat and under the bed. Bed is lined what protective black rubber coating . Wiring is 4 / 0 gauge copper on high voltage circuit. Protective plexiglass over high voltage wiring on controller contactors and batteries comma with blue LED lighting accenting the battery pack. All lights converted to LED except headlights. Can charge on 110 volts or 240 volts and includes many adapters for various power plugs. Battery management system supervises charging and reads out all 50 battery cell, total pack voltage and state of charge visible to the driver. The motor controller allows parameter changes and displays information on a remote near the dash. There is a tachometer mounted on the steering colum, battery volts and amps meters illuminated on the dash. With replacement of the two battery cells, the range is about 75 miles per charge. I have run this truck with a generator in the pickup bed as a range extender like a hybrid car. The charger allowed a full 40 amp draw at 110 or 240 volts.
All manuals are included for the electronics. There is a cooling system or the controller with its own Reservoir radiator pump and antifreeze Loop. This truck has been a head turner and was very popular at car shows, even won a trophy at a Corvette show ! Local pickup available in Wisconsin or can be truck shipped anywhere in the US. It is buyer's responsibility for shipping. This truck is being sold as is, but it is a quality build, a labor of lov, and you can Google electric El Camino to find a number of sites detailing the build and a review by Wired Magazine.

The suspension has been enhanced, and the curb weight is now four thousand pounds, was 3800 with a V6 engine. What the power steering and brakes the handling is excellent and she cruises along at 70 on the freeway no problem. The acceleration is amazin, much better than with a gas engine. Fun to drive, more fun to show off, and still a hard-working truck with a nice car interior, and a smooth ride. Electric cars may not everyone's cup of tea, but who doesn't love an El Camino? And who doesn't love passing the gas station without spending your hard-earned money there? With over 40K investe, a modest reserve of 10K seems fair. Guaranteed to pass emissions test in all 50 states. Say goodbye to oil changes, cold weather starting problems and tune-ups. All questions and answers will be posted for all to see. The hood was dented when the pins were accidently left out and when driving, it started to lift up, and dented by the hinges. It is a Florida car, but does have a little rust along the window seals for the rear quarter windows. Picture of the passenger side is the worst one.
