The Bel Air was top of the line for the Chevrolet line up from 1953 until the introduction of savvy new Impala in 1958. That same year, all cars were renamed in order of trim level & price as the Delray, Biscayne, Bel Air, and then the Impala. Today, many still find the classy characteristics of the Bel Air preferred over the flamboyant Impala. The fully redesigned fifth generation Bel Air was introduced in 1961 and they are unique particularly for the flat, square roof overhang on the rear window on 2-door & 4-door sedan models, while still utilizing the large curved windshield front & back.
